Dizzyness With Diclofenac Sod 75 Mg.

Is it"normal" to have dizzyness and even occasional fainting when taking diclofenac sod 75mg.These have occurred upon rising from a supine position and lasts only seconds.Patient is on medication for elevated BPand having no problems.Diclofenac has been prescribed for back pain

Hello, Dan! How is the patient doing? Has there been any change?

The FDA patient leaflet for Diclofenac does list dizziness as being a possible side effect, along with nausea, headache, stomach irritation and increased risk of bleeding, but the fainting is not common.

Taking the fainting into consideration, along with the dizziness, the blood pressure medication you said the patient is on, as well as when these issues occur, I am more inclined to think they may be experiencing orthostatic hypotension. There is an NIH page on it, that lists all of these symptoms, plus I've experienced it myself, before, due to blood pressure medications, as well as from dehydration. It can be caused by either one, as well as some other medications and medical conditions.

Orthostatic hypotension, by NIH definition, occurs when someone experiences a sudden drop in blood pressure, upon sitting up, or standing suddenly. My cardiologist would frequently put a blood pressure cuff on my arm, then have me abruptly stand up, to see if I was experiencing sudden drops in blood pressure, that way they could adjust my medications, or fluid intake, as needed.

Has the patient's doctor been consulted? It is important to discover the cause, because sometimes it has been known to cause dangerous fails. Only a doctor can give you a definitive answer, but it is an idea that you can ask about.
