Dizziness From Ampyra
(Newest replies first)

On ampyra 2 days. Severe dizziness / light headedness. Does this get better with continued treatment? Ambien for insomnia? Advisable to take with ampyra? Strange, but think I feel very slight difference already! Is that even possible? Thank you in advance for any input.

This post was my early experience w/ Ampyra (Yiskah and Tajah are same person- I didn't remember that I had posted on this site under a diff. name.) I did start the medication 2x per day, and 5 1/2 weeks later had an MS exacerbation (please read the post from Tajah if you are interested...
Hi, I have been on Ampyra for approx. 2 weeks. I too think I am seeing an improvement in my walking (though certainly not perfect), and possibly in my right hand too. But the past 3 days or so I am experiencing pretty intense pain in my right knee- looked on line to see if common, which it seems to be. I only take the AM dose (which my neuro condones), as I don't need to be more ambulatory after 7 pm! I will go read more information...
Hello... Iam new to the site. Iam on day 17 with Ampyra. I actually noticed a tiny difference almost immediately. I had back pelvic bone pain x 4 days though. I stuck to it. Hoping & praying that it will go away & it did. Everyone needs to try Ampyra, if u have not started yet. On day 12 I started a cough and took a cough syrup for the next 3 days. Those 3 days immediately became pre-ampyra days (fatigue, difficulty ambulating, poor balance, etc). As soon as I stopped the cough med, I felt the difference. I still have tingling and some discomfort/pain on both knee areas, so I hope it will eventually go away. I can't wait to totally walk normal or at least close to it.
Ampyra contains the active ingredient Dalfampridine, it is mainly used to help treat MS symptoms.
That said, yes, those are normal side effects, along with: nausea and drowsiness.
They should wear off as your body adjusts to the medication, if they do not or they get worse, you should speak with your doctor immediately.
Yes, it is possible, some people do respond to medications very fast.
