This is an antibiotic that is used to treat or prevent infections, it will not alleviate pain. It is sometimes prescribed for diverticulitis to help prevent or treat a flare up.
The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.
