Diuretics That Don't Affect Blood Pressure

My 88 yr. old dad has always had low blood pressure. Since a recent apendectomy, his ankles now swell, but blood pressure remains low at 90/58. Is there a drug that will only decrease his fluid retention?

Fluid retention is largely due to one's dietary habits, such as having too much sodium or acidic foods. To help decrease fluid retention it may be wise to eat more alkaline foods, including: fresh fruits and vegetables, lemon water, and plant-based foods in general. I'd also suggest monitoring his fat intake, as this is what hinders digestion if you have too much (health experts usually recommend eating no more than 30g a day, but this varies from person to person).

Exercise is also very important for maintaining normal blood pressure and preventing fluid retention. If he is not walking or moving around for at least 30minutes a day, that may be contributing to the cause. Granted, not everyone at his age can get up and walk/move for 30minutes, so some other form of light exercise might have to be considered.
