My question is whether I can take this in the evening so it does not make me so tired during the day? Thanks. ## Hi Charlie, Based on my research, the dosing indications for Diltiazem ER don't actually specify whether or not you're supposed to take it during the day or at night. It only mentions taking it "once daily" and doesn't really go into any further detail from there. So in my opinion, it sounds like it should be fine to take it at night as long as you remain consistent with one particular approach. Initially, it's also possible that you may feel a slight difference from altering the timing of your dose, but everything should level out shortly thereafter. I hope this helps! ## Hello, Charlie! H...
Since I started diltiazem 8 days ago I have had 4 nose bleeds. Is that coincidence or could the drug be causing the nosebleeds? ## Hi Sharon, As strange as it may sound, "unusual bleeding or bruising" is listed as a severe side effect of this drug; in which case it suggests that you contact your doctor immediately. Referenced from: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0000815/#a684027-sideEffects Some of these medications have the weirdest side effects, but it's a good thing we know the cause of it now. I hope this helps! ## Thanks so much, Dave. I stopped the med as yesterday. I had the worst nosebleed yet. I'll call my doc tomorrow to let him know. ## I started taking diltiazem 60mg every 6 hours. I started the new medicine 2days ago. My nose started bleeding a little. The...
I need to know the difference of diltiazem 180mg and norvasc 5 mg . Are they similar ## Looks like both medicines are used for almost the same thing. Were they prescribed to you by the same doctor? Reference Pages: Diltiazem, Norvasc ## Difference between Diltiazem SA Caps and Diltiazem ER(dilt-XR) Caps? ## ER or XT stands for Extended Release, which means the drug is released slowly over a certain period of time, rather than all at once like regular release medications. ## Dark green, gray capsule with # R-2579 on it ## w/hat is the difference between narvasc and ditiazem ? do they act differently on the system. since they are both calcium blockers. Can they cause bone problems? ## I don't understand why the pharmacy always which medication when your taking dialtizen then they swit...
Been taking (NEW) Diltiazem 180 mg 24 hr time release caps as well as tapering atenolol (was 100mg daily) had horrible symptoms so back on 25mg of atenolol with the diltiazem... can they be taken at the same time or should they be spaced a bit? For svt and BP control. ## Hello, Hyperdi! How are you? If your doctor has advised you to stop the Atenolol, then you should follow their instructions for stopping it. Taking both of them could cause your heart rate and blood pressure to go too low. What type of symptoms did you experience? You were likely experiencing some minor withdrawal effects, as well as new side effects from the Diltiazem. Typical side effects to is, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain, dry cough and increased urination. ## ...
I was recently ordered long acting Diltiazem 120mg and was given Diltiazem C CAP ACTA ,and the lnformation that came with it does not say anything about it being long acting. Can you supply me with this info. ## Hello, Rose! How are you? From the information you've provided, it isn't a long acting medication. They are usually designated with something such as XR, SR, LA, CR or etc. What are the markings on the one you're taking? That is what would enable me to double check for you. Diltiazem is listed by the FDA as being a calcium channel blocker that's most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions. It may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension.
I was using Cardizem CD 180MG caps but the VA changed me to DILTIAZEM (INWOOD) 180 MG SA CAP. Is your 180MG SA also a 24 hr. time release cap like the Cardizem? Thank you for your help...RC ## Hello, RC! How are you? This website does not manufacture any medications. It is an information only resource. And yes, what you've been given is just a generic for what you were already taking and you should follow your doctor's dosing and usage instructions. The SA stand for sustained action, so it means the same as the CD that was listed with the name brand. This medication is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions. Side effects to this medication may include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and hypotension. Is there anything else I can help...
I get my diltiazem via mail order (Optum Rx) my copay for 90 diltiazem CD caps is $340.00 !! My copay for 90 diltiazem TR caps is $40.19 !!!! No one can provide a good explanation !?!?! ## Hello, GeoPhilly! How are you? There really is no 'good' explanation, so to speak. It's just that the one company had them available for a cheaper price than the other company. That's just what happens, sometimes. This is a generic medication, so it's made by several different companies and whichever one your pharmacy has depends on who was offering the cheapest price at the time they needed to restock their supply, so they can give you the cheapest price possible. Sometimes the price takes a jump, sometimes it drops. It's just supply and demand, the same with anything else on ...
At one time I was on Tiazac 360 er and then the pharmacy put me on Diltiazem 360. The Tiazac 360 er is more economical than Diltiazem 360 er. I wanted to switch back to Tiazac 360 er. I have 5 refills left, and I asked the girl at the pharmacy and she said that I would have to have a new prescription. I thought that both of these were generics and I do not understand why I would have to have another prescription. The Tiazac works just as well as Diltiazem. Thanks for your help! ## Hi Dave, Tiazac is actually a brand name of Diltiazem; but I too find it odd that they would make you switch off of something that's working just fine without giving any specific reasoning behind their decision. Instead they just say "here you go!" and that's that. I personally prefer brand nam...
taken diltiazem cd cap par for years new pharmacy filled rx with diltiaz er teva asked phrmcst he said same are they? 240 mg. AFIB. ## Hello, DesrtDrmr! How are you? From what you've listed in your post, they are the same and have just been manufactured by different companies. With generics, it's common for your pharmacy to switch, depending on which company was offering the cheapest price at the time they needed to restock their supply. Side effects to this medication may include nausea, dizziness, headache, hypotension, lowered heart rate and stomach pain. Is there anything else I can help with?
I need the side effects of this high blood pressure drug ## Diltiazem is a calcium channel blocker, so it may cause side effects, such as nausea, headache, hypotension and dizziness. You can read more about the medication and additional side effects here: Is there anything else I can help with? ## How long does it take for side effects to go away after the drug is discontinued ## Theresa, it can vary, depending on the dosage and how long you were taking it. I am very sensitive to medications and usually found that when I suffered bad side effects and discontinued one, it took 2 weeks at a minimum for them to wear off and the max was usually about 4 weeks. Are there any other questions or comments? ## This is the worst drug I have taken. My fingers are swollon and itch so bad it feels an...
I was prescribed tiazac xc 120 mg for high blood pressure and I was recently prescribed by my physician co-diltiazem t 120 mg. I would like to know if these are the same drug? I am somewhat confused! The latter is a purple capsule. please identify if there is a difference!
UpdatedBeginning about 15years ago, I became aware that I was having palpitaions, later diagnosed as PVCs. It appeared to me that they were slowly becoming more frequent over this time period, but dramatically increased about 2 months ago. Approximately 30% of my beats were PVCs when I wore a monitor for 48 hours about two weeks ago, but no tachicardia. 15 years ago I was only having periods of frequent PVCs about twice a year, and they only lasted a couple hours each time. Way back then, a doctor prescribed atenolol (sp?) for another condition. Upon taking it I immediately started having continuous periods of PVCs that lasted the entire three days that I took the medication. (I discontinued.) During this recent long period of PVCs, I was prescribed a small dose of Metoprolol (Met) daily -- 12...
Doctor increased dose from 180 and BP still not budging. Have large red bruises on arms, even small hit will cause great blood spots. Can this be the Dilitaz? ## Hi, Keith! Sorry about the problem you're having. And yes, that could be due to an issue with the medication and you need to contact your doctor about it as soon as possible. They'll need to check it out to ensure that it's not a serious health complication starting and you'll most likely need to switch to a different medication. I'm not sure why they just increased the dosage, if it wasn't working to begin with, then just trying a different medication is usually the best approach. How long have you been taking it? ## I was taking TAZTIA 180 for a long time, and it didn't really help much, then Dr. s...
What tier drug from the drug formulary is diltiazem ER caps 240 mg - also what tier is Verapamil SR caps. Thank you. ## Drug formularies aren't universal, so I can't help you find any information, without knowing what health plan you use, so I can search for the correct formulary. Any given list and tier can vary from one to the other, depending on their internal policies and coverage. Can you post back with more details? ## I am going to be on Medicare effective June 1, and am considering AARP United Healthcare plan F. I will need RX coverage, and am trying to find what tiers my prescriptions are. The on I can't find is Diltiazem Er. Is there a difference in tiers per insurance companies?
I have been taking Diltiazem 30 mg twice a day for over a year now for atrial fibrilation. when taken in the morning i become weak and dizzy, it impacts my bike ride severely and this has been getting worse over time, used to ride 3 x week 30 to 40 mi. now down to 20 2x week, when I skip it's better, HR 70/90. dr insist I continue same protocol, also take waterpills, furosemide 20 mg. and Klor-Con 20m to balance Magnesium. ## Hello, Paul! How are you? It's likely the Furosemide that's causing the problem, what you're describing are symptoms of dehydration. Diuretics lower blood pressure, but they do nothing for a-fib and if it's causing you to be dehydrated, your a-fib could actually be made worse. Why does he have you on it? Have you considered consulting another do...
My new pharmacy plan puts my Diltiazem ER 180mg XT capsule into a Tier 3 costing me $60 for a 90 day supply. A tier 1 or 2 drug is free. I would like to know if taking a free (Tier 1) 90mg Diltiazem tablet twice per day at 12hr intervals would give me the same health benefit? Is the release of the tablet medication adverse to an even release of the ER capsule? ## Hello, Derf! How are you? Yes, you should be able to do that, without a problem, you'd just take the medication twice a day,, instead of once. Of course, you need to check with your doctor, because they'll have to write a new prescription. Is there anything else I can help with?
I am currently taking diltiazem dt 360 mg once a day and I would like to switch to diltiazem 24 hr er 180 mg twice a day because it is a lot cheaper. I don't know the difference between tr and er. some people say that there is not difference and others say that there is. ## Hello, Buddy! How are you? No, they are both time released, so there is no difference. However, you'll need to check with your doctor, before switching. Are there any other questions or concerns?
Is a dry cough one of the side effects of Diltiazem? I developed a cough on Lisinapril after a couple years, so my Dr. switched me to Diltiazem 180 mg. extended release, about a year ago. I have recently developed a dry cough, and am short of breath, especially when I lie down at night. So I prop myself up with pillows to sleep. I also cough when I try to talk too much. I've tried using my asthma inhaler, but it doesn't help. ## Hello, Grandma of 4! How are you doing? I'm very sorry about the problem that you're having. However, please consult your doctor as soon as possible. That problem breathing, when you lay down at night that requires you to prop yourself up with pillows could be a sign of congestive heart failure, so your doctor needs to check this out immediately....
What is the difference between Verapamil SR 360mg my husband was doing fine on Diltiazem CD ER 240 mg. He has A-fib but the Verapamil is too expensive and we can't afford it at all. ## Hello, MoMo! How are you? Why was his medication changed? Both of them are calcium channel blockers ands if the one he was taking worked well for him, there would be no logical reason to have to change it.
Can you take diltiazem and isosorbide mononitrate at the same time ## Is it OK to take my DILT-CD along with my Isosorb? I can't remember if my doctor said it was OK or not? Thanks! ## hi ive been takibg diltiazem for a long time but now ive got to take isoboride is it safe to take them together
