Dilaudid Vs. Oxycontin

I was taken off of Dilaudid 2Mg every 3 hrs to oxycontin 5 Mg every 6 hrs. I was in pain and I never experienced withdrawals, but I did this time. I called the Dr. right away. The Phar. gave my wonderful PM alot of crap, but I finally got back.on the Dilaudid in two days.

Hello, Linda! How are you doing? I'm sorry about the problem that you had.

That wasn't a proper conversion, it would take 5.33mgs of Oxycodone to be equivalent to each 2mgs of the Dilaudid you were taking. Thus, you'd need 40mgs of spread throughout the day to provide the same analgesic effect and prevent withdrawals.

I'm glad you were able to get back on the one that works for you.

The FDA lists these medications as being narcotic analgesics, so they have the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
