Dilaudid Sexual Side Effects (female)
(Newest replies first)

Hi. I have been taking Dilaudid ER pills for several years now. I do not abuse them and take around 4 of the 8mg pills a day. I cannot find any information online regarding the sexual side effects that Dilaudid may have for females. It seems to be that reaching an orgasm is near impossible now... I am also on Opana so I am trying to figure out which is the culprit. Maybe they both are contributing factors but maybe there is information out there in the community that can help me. I have never had this problem before and it is frustrating me a lot. Any insight or advice would be appreciated.

ALL opioid pain medications have the very likely side effects of reducing libido and sensitivity.
Part of how pain medications work is by dulling sensitivity to all stimulus. All. Physical, sexual, emotional, spiritual.
As a 10yr chronic pain patient my I'll throw in my two cents to anyone that comes across this... Let's say without medication you're at a 7, you can take enough pain medication to get down to a 1, essentially pain-free. At the same time you lose many of the other joys in life though. If you decide to only take enough medication to bring you to a 3 or 4 you can still manage life at this level and experience the other joys without much hindrance.
No additional medication can bring back what you sacrifice when you attempt pain free. Trust me I know exactly how nice it is to be essentially pain free via meds but is it really worth turning off all the other inputs?
Obviously its both if both people just taken one of the drugs are having the same problems. banging 12 dillies into my arm killed my willy. It also obviously affects both men and women.
I disagree because I am a woman who only takes the dilaudid and I have the same problem. Once and a while I get lucky, lol. I guess we can't have it all and as someone said we are all different so for some I'm sure it's the Opana as well. Peace.
Hi all I am a 29 year old male and I have the same problem I take 6mg hydromorphon 3 times a day and a 3 mg once at noon I also take oxycocet 3 times a day with out this I am in severe pain and can not even get out of bed. I have found that I have the same problem in the bed room that I can not even get to that point or most times not even keep a erection this has been a big problem for us but I have found that Viagra works great and gets me there have been taking it for the last 2 months and I seem to be back to my old self in the bed room. I hope this helps you
I hope you are still checking for posts b/c I am experiencing the exact same thing and I am only on Dilaudid. My doctor did warn me that this could affect my sex hormones and libido and after reading your post - thanks for having the courage to write it - I know that is what I'm going through. Where my husband and I had a good sex life, now I am very indifferent which is horrible, we don't have much time left together and it is frustrating as well. I don't recall any mention of whether you are male or female but I get the feeling that the other posters are male and only think that men would be affected by such a side effect. I do believe there are meds they can give you/us to get your hormone levels back in sync. I miss that time with my husband and was thinking it might be the disease and never said anything to him, I just thought it would be pointless but he noticed the difference and I felt and continue to feel sad about it. I am going to ask my doctor but I am afraid they will tell me I can have pain relief (which I need very much) or my sex life back and I am hoping that is not the case. I have heard there are creams to try at some of the Whole Foods that might be helpful but I don't know what hormone is the problem. I know for men it is testosterone, anyone have any experience? PLEASE share what you know. Thanks.
Do you think taking a lesser mg would help the "situation"? Or, is there another pain med out there that won't have the same side effects? Pain takes away so much and now this?!
It may be caused by either one, or both. It is a hazard of using such medications, they can't be forced to work on just one type of nerve receptor.
Have you consulted your doctor for any advice?
Eh man, it's the opana. I'm on opana er 40mgs an yep it will ruin you every time :-) :-) :-) :-)
