Dilaudid 2mg Not Working

Hi. I am 38 years old,I had 4 surgical procedures done 9 days ago.Tonsillectomy,Adeniodectomy,septal reconstruction and sinus surgery. I am in incredible pain I haven't eaten for 10 days:( I can barely swallow water and my Dr has prescribed Dilaudid,2 mg. I have never taken this before. I took my first dose of 2 mg 1 and 1/2 hours ago. It hasn't affected me. I am STILL un extteme pain. My prescription says take 1 to 2 tablets every 4 to 6 hours. So do I take another? I need this pain to stop. Please.

Yes, if it is was prescribed that way, then the intent is for you take another, if one doesn't alleviate your pain. However, be careful not to exceed your doctor's dosing instructions. If two doesn't help, then you should consult them for assistance.

The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
