Difference In Addictive Potential Clonazepam Vs Diazepam

Is there a difference in the use of clonazepam vs diazepam as far as addiction potential? Would one be better than the other for tapering?

No, not as far as I know from what I studied about them, at least in the nature of the drugs themselves.

There actually IS a difference regarding "addiction potential" among benzodiazepines. Valium acts very rapidly -- a trait which is highly attractive to addicts. Clonazepam, on the other hand, is absorbed more slowly -- doesn't peak until 1-4 hrs after ingestion. Not as attractive. In general, the short-acting benzos are more attractive to addicts - although Valium is a long-acting drug. But the bottom line is: ALL benzodiazepines, when taken in high doses and/or for long periods of time, cause dependency and addiction.
