Difference Between Adderall And Amphetamine Salts (Page 8)

I was recently diagnosed with Adult ADD and have been prescribed Amphetamine Salts (Generic for Adderall) for a few months now. The initial dosage was one 10mg tablet/ three times a day and recently my Doctor upped the dosage to one 30mg tablet/ twice a day. I know that overall this has been very beneficial for me but I cant help but wonder if the generic brand (IR Amphetamine Salts) has less of the active ingredient, and more unnecessary side effects(irritability, fatigue). I know that while the active ingredients are likely to be the same, the "fillers" usually are not and even the active ingredients can vary up to 10%. I also know that everybody reacts differently depending on their bodies' make-up as well as the drugs and I have always reacted sensitively to any kind of drug. The more I "google" the more I want to stay away from the generic form. Also- almost every pharmacy around has little to no Adderall Brand IR tablets in stock, they only have the generic brands and possibly Adderall brand but only the Extended-Release. My Doctor seems to firmly believe that there is no difference between Adderall XR and Adderall IR, and because she prescribed me the generic form (Amphetamine Salts), she probably doesn't see a difference there either. I don't have the time to ask 10 doctors what they think so if anyone has any information or experiences please share! Thank you!

OMG! Totally not the same!! I have been scouring the internet to see if anyone else has been experiencing the same issues, and I am not alone! I have been taking Adderrall XR 60mg/day for YEARS now, worked great, no issues. Now, this year I have been given Amphetamine bla bla (the generic for Adderall XR) by my pharmacy instead of the regular Adderall I have always gotten. IMMEDIATELY I knew it was NOT the same! It is like I am not even taking anything at all. I wrote out a check for $295 for my one month supply (new insurance, thanks Obama) anyway.... I paid out that much for this bottle of junk that does not work and it is "supposedly" the same! NOT THE SAME. SO, now I am supposed to look into other options for meds that are like adderall that hopefully WORK and won't cost $300/mo to take! Yikes!!! I am worthless without it dang it!

I was thinking the same. My scrip was for adderal, drug store gave me substitute amphetamine salts. It makes me very tired after taking. I just want to go to sleep, was told would make me be able to concentrate better but it's not !

Nicely said, Josy. And a good thing to keep in mind in all of our dealings with others, whether virtual or real-life. Having said that, however, I also must say that the response from the person with the superiority complex brings out the Snob Crusher in me! Sorry - just an old English teacher springing to the defense of all non smarty-pantses.

Yeah, they can tell me it's the same all they want, but when you have taken the real thing for years and INSTANTLY can tell it isn't the same... you are right.... they are not being honest. Robbery.

I would like to intervene on what Margarita has stated "that if your stupid, God made you that way", which is kind of harsh to say Margarita. God does not have anything to do on how smart your going to turn out, you do. Some people need this drug to help to focus and to bring their knowledge out, which is already embedded in them. So that was even stupid for you to say. And Celeste G, if you dont believe in God, that's nobody's problem but yours. You know it's some of us that do right? But anyways, I do agree that there is a huge difference between the generic and Adderall xr. The generic makes me so sleepy and I don't have a urge to do anything, but when I started taking adderall xr 20mg, I found myself becoming very focus and alert, patient and more articulate without forgetting what I'm going to say and my words flow out much smoother in conversations like a charm. So yes, a tremendous difference. With Adderall Xr, I even find myself not having to take Zoloft with this drug because it satisfies what Zoloft suppose to do and more.

I doubt it matters, its like ritalin HCl and methylphenidate HCl. It's just the brand or trade name. Included HCl since you were talking about extended release.

So the most common treatment for that would be ritalin and an SSRI. You should probably sue him though.

I was taking Adderall for (ADHD) and felt great, I could focus better and read one book instead of starting three or four, I was sociable and coherent. My Doctor switched me to Amphetamine Salts 10mg once a day and I feel NOTHING. Any idea why?

You obviously have no clue and took medications yourself for the wrong reasons! Your trying to tell me every doctor in the world is wrong to prescribe adderall to people that have tested to need it ! You really need to do your research before you throw all this negativity garbage that you have no idea what you are talking about! There are so many people that take medications that make such a positive change and impact in their life's for the best ! Keep your judgmental opinions to yourself next time !

I to was diagnosed with ADHD and I like the doctor that I have seems to be just what I needed I'm now 50 and I been struggling all my life not been able to focus is always been a big problem I also have panic attacks OCD the doctor put me on amphetamine salts the first two weeks it was 10 mg I went back for my second visit and he increased it to 20mg and I have to say I feel more alert and focused during the day and at night I'm ready to go to bed but I still can get up a couple times a night and I do feel a little jittery in the day but for the most part I think it's working only time will tell I struggled all through school and it was hard but I been on the same job for 30 years I have to say the electronics world is really helping me also I my smart phone became my best friend I don't have many friends a not to many people understand me but I'm hoping that the medicine will help me be a little more focused so far I feeling a little better

Hello Natasha.
I was prescribed 20 mg of Adderall to be taken once a day in the AM. They worked wonderfully, but i have since moved and not found another job so I am on AHCCCS, which does not cover the cost of Adderall (so i am told) so I am now being prescribed Amphetamine Salts which do absolutely NOTHING for me. I have been told by EVERY Dr. i have spoken with that there are NO differences in the two medicines. I believe there must be something different for one to work so well and the other to do nothing? I am not a Dr. so i may be absolutely wrong, just telling you the FACTS about how one works and the other doesn't.
