I was recently diagnosed with Adult ADD and have been prescribed Amphetamine Salts (Generic for Adderall) for a few months now. The initial dosage was one 10mg tablet/ three times a day and recently my Doctor upped the dosage to one 30mg tablet/ twice a day. I know that overall this has been very beneficial for me but I cant help but wonder if the generic brand (IR Amphetamine Salts) has less of the active ingredient, and more unnecessary side effects(irritability, fatigue). I know that while the active ingredients are likely to be the same, the "fillers" usually are not and even the active ingredients can vary up to 10%. I also know that everybody reacts differently depending on their bodies' make-up as well as the drugs and I have always reacted sensitively to any kind of drug. The more I "google" the more I want to stay away from the generic form. Also- almost every pharmacy around has little to no Adderall Brand IR tablets in stock, they only have the generic brands and possibly Adderall brand but only the Extended-Release. My Doctor seems to firmly believe that there is no difference between Adderall XR and Adderall IR, and because she prescribed me the generic form (Amphetamine Salts), she probably doesn't see a difference there either. I don't have the time to ask 10 doctors what they think so if anyone has any information or experiences please share! Thank you!

I would never give a child 6 yrs old adderall. I sure hope you have tried nutritional ways. I have narcolepsy and I am 75 yrs old. I hate having to take this drug but I need to stay awake now and then.

I'm so glad to see your post as I have felt the same way. I was on Adderall XR and when the generic came out I switched for the cost savings. I feel very jittery, major mood swings and have gained weight (an odd side effect). I have never tried the IR but had wondered if it might help that let down side effect. I think seeing your post convinces me #1. I'm not imagining it. #2. I'm going back to the non-generic. Thanks!

It's bad enough that you've absolutely no clue what you're writing about. But,
the fact that there were in excess of fifteen spelling errors in your little tirade,
shows that you're incapable of writing at all. Fortunately, you've excepted the
fact that, "If you are not smart, then that is how 'god' made you." So, not only
are you without a drug, but you're also without a prayer. However, I'm sure that
no one would 'judge' you for using spell check -- It's available over the counter,
and to the best of 'my knowledge', it's non-addictive. G-d's Speed...

I'm happy to hear to won't let your daughter see this doctor, but how about yourself? My unsolicited opinion is that it's time to fire this doctor! I am an RN, and it's a needed action at some times. Remember, "1/2 the doctors were at the bottom half of their class in med school."

Just because a child has ADD/ADHD doesn't mean that they are not smart. If you know any this about the disability you would know that they just have a harder time being able to concentrate on most daily tasks. I think the the stupid ignorant one would be the person not understanding a disease, disability, infection ect. I don't think you should comment on something unless you are 100% knowledgeable of the entire situation for each individual person with a problem

I absolutely agree with you. I've had adderall and amphetamine salt. When I use the generic (a.s) I get irritated very easily and feel restless yet lazy. Adderall just makes me get things done and helps the racing thoughts. Your not alone. It's the salt part whenever they give me amphetamine salt I get that reaction. I was just given it again and just took some so maybe this time will be different.

Except vyanse doesn't work especially for those who have depression/lethargy with ADHD. Right now the DEA cop mutants are calling the shots on the medical profession which is running around with it's tail between it's legs. In New York they're cutting everyone's rx. They cut me from 30mg 2x/day to 10 mg 2x/day and my life is hell. LETS BREAK UP THE DEA ONCE AND FOR ALL !

ADDERALL can be a God Send for those who benefit from it. Some believe one "Grows Out of It" The ones told to live with it do not benefit from a trial with the Rx. Even in the age of forties a adult may well consolidate the repeated procrastination so often the main contribution or main complaint of ADD/ADHD. Money wise, the individuals who get Tx double or quadruple their lifetime income. Finishing tasks, absentee's lessen, and satisfactory interpersonal relationships become the norm.

The reason why they only do vyvanse is probably because you can't abuse vyvanse while you can abuse adderall. By taking more vyvanse, it doesn't increase the high but only te duration of effects. With adderall, you can take 1 pill and feel it or 3 and be high as a kite. This isn't the case with vyvanse, which is why they would give it out for free, because there isn't potential for abuse

There is a difference between generic and brand name Adderall Xr. I take Adderall XR 10mg Brand name. The generic made by TEVA is crap; Amphetamine salts. 60mgs of addrall is a bit much. Ask Dr. to write NO SUBS BRAND NAME ONLY on RX. The brand name is even cheaper than the generic w/insurance my co pay is 10.00$

I started out taking the 20 mg Adderall IR (generic) 3 times a day. I tried several generics and the one made by Barr was the best, however it is no longer available. The next best I found was made by Santos. I found it difficult to take the meds at the same time every day which is very important. So, I have switched to the Adderall XR, (brand name) 60 mg in the AM. This gives a more even dose that lasts all day. I have no sleeping problems. This has worked very well for me, however I find that I must buy the brand name. My co-pay is expensive, but this condition and treatment is too important to skimp. I suppose everyone is different but I find that I definitely need the brand name Adderall.
