Did They Replace All The Original Oxycontin With This New Crush Resistant Formula? (Page 3)

I heard that all the pharmacy replaced all the original oxycontin (OC) with this new formula that prevents anyone from crushing it. The new pills says OP on the one side instead of it saying OC. And if you still can get the original oxycontin (OC) do you now need to request it from your doctor so he can write you a prescription for the original oxycontin (the pill that says OC on one side instead of it saying OP
I got throat cancer base of tongue, the new oxy swells up embeds in the tumor & now is harder to swallow with the new formula. I cough it up an hour later twice the size it went in my mouth. I don't have a problem with other pills. Notified my doctor I lost about 6 of them coughing them up on the street or garbage. They really screwed it up for the good people who didn't crush it, but it took it out on everyone else. I'm sick of this gestapo DEA doing this this. The new oills will swell up like a marshmellow & if you got throat cancer their gonna lodge in your tumor so you can't swallow them. It's disgusting what they have did to people with throat cancer making it harder to swallow the oxy.
RAY - Please, please don't give up! I don't understand the pain associated with cancer. But I have a shoulder that no longer works and in constant, daily, pain. So I do understand that. I am also a Christian NO WHERE in the Bible does it say that ending ones' life will cause you not the enter the Kingdom of Heaven. I probably shouldn't have told you that! But please hang in there! Your family and friends love you to much. The pain you would cause them would be immeasureble! I know, I lost my husband in a drunk driver accident, and the pain and grief WERE immeasureble and still is. That was 22 years ago. So PLEASE think this over before you act. God loves you, it says so in the Bible.
I have cancer that causes daily pain enough that my quality of life doesn't exist anymore. I've had to deal with this pain for 12 years in a row now. I had a very hard time originally finding a pain medication that was effective and I could tolerate. After trying numerous pain meds, we finally found the OC Oxycontin was effective enough to give me a life again, but now the OC Oxycontin is no longer available and I have found
the new OP Oxycontin provides almost zero pain relief., so it looks like I have to spend another Summer racked with pain. I'm a 56 year old male, and the thought of not being able to experience any pain relief again is something I just can't go through again. So, I'm strongly considering ending my life this Summer, and I won't have to go through the nightmares my cancer pain causes. I am a christian, so I am working on a plan where I can end my life and not affect my chances of making it into heaven.
Did our government forget what prohibition did to this country? From the articles I read the percentage of people taking Oxycontin to get high was in most areas of the country smaller in numbers than those who had been taking the OC Oxycontin as prescribed. The OC Oxycontin provided a real benefit for people like myself. I had tried over 30 different pain medications that resulted in little to no relief in pain. For some reason my system can tolerate the OC Oxycontin but when I've tried those 30 plus other meds, I ended up in almost every case feeling worse than better. But for whatever reason, my system was able to tolerate the OC Oxycontin. I often called it my miracle drug 'cause it
was allowing me to enjoy my life for the first time since being diagnosed with cancer. I had recently started to experience a life again after 12 years without one. In the past 12 years, I was only able to join the family in celebrating Christmas twice, but now instead of continuing to be able to enjoy almost a normal life, I'm now back to square one again, and I just can't go through having to endure the level of pain my cancer causes. Thanks to Purdue and the Feds, my life is over, and I have instructed my wife that once I'm buried to contact as many attorneys as will listen to her about my case. I told her that my life may be over, but she should try to recover as much money as a court and jury will award. I would have preferred to enjoy my grandkids for the first time since they were born. The oldest grand kid is 7 years old and I've been able to watch her open her Christmas gifts once, and I've never been able to attend any of her birthday parties.
Why do we in this country force the majority of users to go back to suffering because of the actions of a few. Does anyone think that those that had been abusing Oxycontin are now eating ice cream instead of using drugs. All this will result in is we'll see a different drug be abused, so does that mean each drug that shows some people abusing it to replace the Oxycontin will mean that drug will be pulled off the market? Are we going to see this continue to happen until we're forced to use willow bark as a pain medication since all other prescription pain relievers are no longer available?
Has anyone tried to endure their cancer pain without being able to experience any relief since they happen to have a system that the only pain reliever they were able to take was suddenly yanked off our market? Well, that's just exactly what I'm facing once again. I hope the leaders at Purdue are able to sleep at night each time they read about another cancer patient who ended their life 'cause the only medication they had been able to tolerate was no longer available for him or her.
You will have to some day answer to someone for the decision you made on OC Oxycontin. In my case that will most likely be my family and a group of attorneys. That's at least a start for you to bear responsibilities for your decisions in this matter.
I have DDD and have been on 80's for over 2 years twice a day and 30 rox 5 times a day for break through...Lucky that walgreens had the Ethex brand O.C's...but I guess those are gone now too. The O.P are aweful do not help with my pain at all so my dr. switched me to the Opanas 40's. They do not work as good but workl A LO better then the O.P atleast. I wonder why Ethex stopped making the O.C's? We should find their website and call them instead of wasting our time with purdue....ovbiously purdue is done and therre's not much we can do but call the F.D.A and complain. What do you guys think?...
I notice the same with OP it is garbage. Kills my stomache and doesn't touch the pain. Try Opana ER it works way better.
do not take it anymore.try a different pain killer that is not made by purdu.if we suffer have them suffer.dont buy it.
I'm glad you stayed too!
Vito - I live in Vermont and they have sent me papers for medicial Marijuana but I ignored them. My doctor has refered me to a pain management doctor. So I will ask about the Marijuana because the oxy's still don't work and I refuse to crush, snort or chew them. You give great advise and issues that I would have never thought of. Glad you made me stay around. LOL Have a great day, I mean that sincerely.
I don't know what state youre in.
It would help if you got refered to a pain specialist ( not a clinic- but a rehab specialist)
If medical Marijuana is legal in your state you can look into using this to help distract from the discomfort. If you have muscle spasms, the can give you valium safely enough, and this acts with the Oxy to dull pain a bit as well. Keep making comments .. remarks to pharmacist.. this will let them know your for real.... Good luck- and I wish you low pain levels always!
Vito - Thank you very much for setting me straight! That's what I thought. Purdue is NOT going back to the OC's its that simple. So we get to suffer and clock watching. My doctor won't give me another 60 ( I take 3 now) to help with the pain. Or up my oxcodone for break through pain. The licensing board has called him up because he has too many opiate patients. Well hell that's not my fault! Any suggestions?
I just wanted to agree with Keith. I have had several failed spinal surgery's due to a work related accident. I was on Oxycontin since 1995.When Purdue stopped making the OC and switched to the new OP I had problems like a lot of others. My Dr. switched me to 40 mg of Opana twice a day.I don't think they work as well as the original OC but they are very close.I am just saying give them a try !
Walgreens is all out.. For now atleast..
Loook at your pill. If it has the letters OP on the back then they are giving you non generic, but for coding reasons writing generic. If it does not have OP on the back... on the prescription label, it will tell you manufacturer. If the manufacturer is NOT Purdue, please let us all know!
Well my Medicad is'nt paying for real Oxycontin only generics so what does this mean? Do the New Oxycontin oversee the generic style or does it stay the same for ppl who Insurance pay for Generics's
wtarin1-
There are only Oxycontin OP out there. For those of you who are like me, there are no other drugs that seem to work. I have bad reaction to morphine, and hydrocodone as well.
What I am saying is dont take it lying down!. At least report to your pharmacist, amnd doctor that the pills are not the same effectiveness.
File a complaint with the FDA. The more people that let them know the more seriously they will take this.
The Oxycontin OP upsets some peoples stomaches. The take about an hour to start working, and they sytop short of 12 hours... the intended extension of release. Mine stop right at 7-8 hours.
The point of continuous release meds is to keep us off the roller coaster of pill popping and clock watching.. with stabbing pain in between!
Many are using immediate release meds now.
My docs have kept me on my Oxycontin OP, but have increased my number of breakthru meds. I now take OP Oxycontin 2X a day as always, but am given 6 oxy IR in place of the 2 I used to use to break through!
I wish you well.
Vito - You asked me to stay here with you guys, so I have. But you have me totally confused?!? The new op's don't work. I refused the morphine. Are there generic oxy's? And are they the old oc's? Will you please email this site to help me understand what you are saying. Thanks.
The pharmacy told me that OC were no longer available. This is really bad for me as I'm disabled and the new OP are a brand name and costs me over 300.00 compared to the 5.00 I use to pay for the OC's. I'ver tried other meds and nothing else lasts as long. But now the OP's are not lasting. the doctors dont take them so they dont believe you.

SIMPLE!
tell doctor you do not like the way the MS makes you feel. Tell him it constipates you, and makes you feel "high" so that you do not care about things, or do anything.
MS contin, is continuos release Morphine Sulfate.
I took it with those results, which Oxycontin does not do to me.
I didnt poop for a week at a time. and I did not take care of house or dog.. just sat and stared into space. That was when they gave me Oxycontin.. I am regular now, and take care of house and am alert.
Tell him... you are the patient and you are in charge.
1- MS makes you constipated
2- it makes you foggy... cant do chores
3- Oxy takes edge off the pain better for you
4 lets you function
5 keeps you more regular
I have been going to pain management for 3 years. My Dr. had me @ 3 - 60's a day. Then wanted to change because he thought I was building too much tolerance. Put me on 4 - 30 mg of ms contin and 3 - 100 mg of new drug called nucynta. A month ago I had total knee replacement. My ortho and pain dr worked together and put me back on oxy 60 along with ms contin and nucnynta as needed. New oxy not near as effective as old. My pharmacist also told me there is no generic for oxy. Pain dr will start weening me off oxy Monday. I can say new oxy works better than ms contin. What is ms contin? had 9 knee surgeries and both ankles reconstructed. 9 of the above mentioned in past 7 years. Not asking for pity, but how do I convince dr to keep me on oxy? Go to him Monday morning, need help soon. Sorry so long of a rant, but Im sure someone here can help me
Perhaps your pharmacist (they are very well educated and sympathetic) or another pharmacist would be a good advocate. I don't mean to walk you through the process, but he is ethically obligated to send info reported to him to the FDA. I would say complain top pharmacist, then ask him point blank, would you please alert the FDA of my comments and concerns" then get busy filling FDA report.
Then do more legwork. take comments found on this and the many sites devoted to Oxy/ "Purdue's Folly" and make a list of weblinks so you have a peice of paper to wave around when at your doctors and tell him... "this isnt my imagination... read what pain patients in online support groups are saying all over the USA!
God bless you, and may a night of control over any discomfort find you!
