Diclofenec Pot 50 For Headaches

I have had headaches for about 30 years. I have been to many doctors and tried a dozen or so medications while spending well over $10,000 and having good insurance. Three years ago a neurologist proscribed Diclofinic pot 50. It worked like a charm! I was amazed.
Now I get a letter saying effective 1/1/19 Humanna is not going to cover it, at all. Not put it another more expensive class but just not cover it at all.
Does anyone know why? It’s not an opioid drug. They recommend Diclofinic sot? Never heard of it. Can someone please weigh in on this. I’m scared.

Hello Kurtiss,

According to the NIH Diclofenec pot 50 is simply a 50mg dose of diclofenac potassium, also known as cataflam. Looking on the NIH's list of medication there seem to be a large number of generics available to be purchased. If your insurance company is not going to help you pay for this medication it would be wise to find out what generics are offered in your area and see if the cost of paying for them out of pocket is going to be that high. Doing a quick search online I was able to find a few generics of this medication that cost under 50 dollars for 100 pills. I don't know how viable this option is for you as I don't know how frequently you administer this medication but it is worth looking into.

As for the Diclofenac Sod, this refers to diclofenac sodium which is a completely different drug and I'm not sure why they would recommend that medication to you as a substitute.

I hope this helps. Let us know what you find.
