Diamox, Cannabis, Alcohol

I have pseudo tumor cerebri and just got a lumbar puncture AKA a spinal tap for it. After that I was prescribed diamox to keep the pressure down and the doctor told me I shouldn't take recreational drugs such as cannabis or alcohol. Being a college student this is a bit of an issue because I'm going to be on this medication for the next 8 months or so. Does anyone know if taking cannabis or alcohol while on this is really that bad? Or if one is safer than the other? Thank you!

Hello, Mackenzie! How are you?

Marijuana has never been shown to react adversely with any prescription medication.

Alcohol, however, can be problematic, because it can worsen the side effects and aggravate many medical conditions, so it is best to avoid it, while under treatment.

However, it is always best to follow your doctor's advice for your own safety.

As listed by the FDA, Diamox may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, fatigue, drowsiness, depression and bitter taste.

Is there anything else I can help with?
