Dextrostat Brand Vs Generic

I had been taking the non-generic form of dextrostat for 7 years (30 mg 3 times a day) which worked fine for me. Back in May (??) my pharmacist advised me that dextrostat was no longer available but the generic dextrostat was. I tried the generic dextrostat which is supposed to be exactly the same drug as dextrostat, but it is not working for me. It might be the same in books but my body knows there is a huge difference. It's like I am not taking anything at all. I take dextrostat because I suffered a stroke which made me slow in speech, thinking and movement and I also suffer with narcolepsy. The dextrostat helps me to function normally, at least better than I would if I did not take it. Back to the problem: Generic dextrostat is NOT working and I need to know if anybody has experienced the same problem and what amphetemine type drug is comparable to the non generic dextrostat. I have done research of my own and have tried: concerta, vyvanse, desoxyn, adderall, and Ritalin to no avail. Nothing has worked like the non generic dextrostat. I would like feedback from other users and also amount of medication taken to achieve desired effect. Thanks so much, I look forward to your comments.

I have recently been prescribed the generic barr equivalent of Dextrostat. However, it is not the same med. I experience stomach problems, it takes forever for it to wear off and the next day I feel very depressed. Dextrostat was wonderful. I stayed focused and felt great, not the case with Barr generic. I am very disappointed that their not manufacturing Dextrostat anymore, it was a great medication.

I'm acquainted with problems like yours, tho I do not have your particular condition. I'm a chronic pain patient, and my body absolutely KNOWS when it's given a generic. The pharmaceutical companies can say all they want about generic and brand being the same, but I have problems with almost every single generic I've taken. I can only surmise that it may be that they're compounded differently, tho I can't prove it. Something is very different for me, too!

I know generic drugs are different than the non generic drugs. What, if anything, can we do about this? I wanted to phone Barr pharmaceuticals myself and complain because it is the people like you and me who are suffering with these non effective drugs not them.

I too am suffering through the loss of Dextrostat. I only take it for chronic fatigue and only occassionally like when I need to drive far or have an outing to go to but the Generic Dextroamphetamine SULPHATE that is peach colored, round and has a 9 on one side and 952/5 on the other side made me feel terrible. I only take half of a 5mg but I was wired up and anxious. I felt crazy. It seems STRONGER for me. As to what to do about the problem I don't even know why Destrostat was taken off the market. Do we know why?? This is a shame cause my body knows it's not the same formula. Not be a long shot. This feels more like Adderal - more like a salt based amphetamine not sugar. I don't know

P.S. I just called my pharmacy and in addition to Barr they carry an Ethex generic brand. Haven't had great success with Ethex generics in the past but perhaps it's another option for us to try. They have identified a new type of steroid called an ``Adrenergic steroid''. Basically if you can stimulate your adrenal glands and testes you body is more prone to produce excessive strength for short periods of time leading to longer lansting muscle growth. With proper exercise and diet... not to mention that adrenaline reduces pain. What is your exersice routine? Diet? Remeber to pay attention to cholesterol and fried chicken. Weight gain on dextrostat has always tickled my funny bone...

The stomach reaction is quite common with generic/base amphetamine, which is not Dextrostat. Usually you can make the best of the amphetamine by neutralize your stomach acid with a buffer solution and finish off with an acid.

To clarify: taking a very light antacid *like baking soda with water" will help absorption. Taking an acid (usually I take cranberry juice) will help eliminate the drug from your body faster.

I would be concerned about headaches. When they switch drugs on a dime I become very sensitive to headaches.

Yes, the old dextrostat made light a bit bright; when it was recommended that you wear sun glasses (especially in the snow). These effects are of a gone by era whence people cared about quality.

I do not have any advise, but it is nice to be able to agree with someone for once. Thank you for sharing :)
