What is it's actual purpose for cancer patients?

According to my research, cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy are given Dexamethasone to counteract certain side-effects of their antitumor treatment. Dexamethasone can augment/increase the antiemetic effect of 5-HT3 receptor antagonists like ondansetron.
