My husband has been diagnosed with hypertension (180/110 initially)and +++ protein in his urine.Initial figure for protein in urine was 1302 mg/day. Doctor has prescribed Telma 60 and Amlogard 2.5 to him.Doctor also wishes to perform a kidney biopsy for him. After taking the medicines as per doctor's advise for 3 months my husband's BP is under control (120/75) and protein in urine is 450mg/day.
FYI -- My husband had Nephritis when he was 3 years old.Now he is 40.
My questions are:
1.What may be the possible cause of protein in his urine?
2.Should we go ahead with the biopsy in spite of the decrease in protein in his urine?
3.The recovery in terms of decrease in protein in his urine, is it temporary? I mean will the recovery reverse when he stops having the medicines or in other words will he have to take the medicines for the rest of his life?
4.What can be the possible side effects of long term use of the medicines he is taking? How to tackle those side effects?
5.If he opts for a kidney biopsy will the cause for protein in the urine be 100% clear? Will then there be a more focussed treatment or in other words will the treatment change? In that case will we get a prmanent solution?
6.What are the risks involved with kidney biopsy (including risk of infection) and how to minimise those risks?
I'm sorry, did you mean Telma-H?
All medications carry the risk of side effects, especially when used long term.
However, Telma-H contains Telmisartan and Hydrochlorothizide and is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and cardiac conditions. In the case of such medical conditions, it is much more risky to let them continue out of control, than it is to take the medications to keep them under control.
Common side effects may include: dizziness, headache, nausea and stomach pain.
