Hello Isaac,
Unfortunately Deanxit is not an approved drug in the United States as it has been found to be too risky of a medicine. Because of this the drug you are asking about is not something I am able to easily research and find information on, however, I am able to provide a little bit of useful information that may help you find the answer. Deanxit contains the two active ingredients Flupenthixol and Melitracen, both of which are salts and will not trigger anything gluten related. Where you may find issues is with the inactive ingredients of your particular prescription brand. To find out if your drug contains any gluten products, simply look at the inactive ingredients listed on the packaging that the medication came in. If your medicine packaging does not contain any information regarding the inactive ingredients you can also try contacting the manufacturing/labeling company to see if they use any gluten ingredients as a bonding chemical.
If you are having trouble with figuring out who manufactured the medication or how to get in touch with them you can provide me with as much information as possible on the packaging and I will do my best to find a way for you to contact them. Have a great holiday season and best wishes.
Thank you Kevin - I came across a PDF leaflet for this drug from what appears to be the manufacturer, and under section 6.1 (List of excipients) it states:
Tablet core:
- betadex,
- lactose monohydrate,
- maize starch,
- hydroxypropylcellulose,
- microcrystalline cellulose,
- croscarmellose sodium,
- talc,
- hydrogenated vegetable oil,
- magnesium stearate
Coating:
- Polyvinyl alcohol part. hydrolyzed,
- macrogol 3350,
- talc,
- titanium dioxide E 171,
- erythrosine E 127,
- indigotine E 132,
- Macrogol 6000
Admittedly, I'm not familiar with all of these listed ingredients. I'm seeing "maize starch" (which is corn starch and should be gluten-free). But I'm not sure if the others such as betadex / cellulose / etc contain any wheat derivatives. Any chemists out there know?
