Day 3 Of Bp Being Extremely Low After 1 Dose Of Lisinopril (Top voted first)
UpdatedI went to the doctor with a blood pressure reading of 161/102 so she put me on lisinopril-hctz 10mg. My BP dropped within 30 minutes to 83/60 after just 1 dose. It has been 3 days now and my BP hovers between 83/60 and 111/63. I'm now a bit concerned because my BP is usually 134/90-140/95 (sometimes higher) and this just seems a bit low. Is this normal after just 1 dose?

Hello, Cattz! How are you?
While the 134 and 140 are not dangerous numbers, the 90 and 95 are concerning, normal is considered a systolic of 120 or less, and a diastolic of 80 or less and it should be treated to lower it to more normal and safer levels.
As to the Lisinopril/HCTZ, no that is not normal after just one dose. But what I'm wondering is if the 161/102 reading was just a temporary elevation due some stressing factor, such as being at the doctors, being overheated, having been very active before you got to your appointment, or etc. Ideally, a doctor should let the patient sit quietly for awhile, upon arrival, before checking their heart rate and blood pressure.
Additionally, before prescribing a medication, high elevations should be seen on multiple readings over a period of time. Thus, I'm thinking your diastolic readings were likely your doctor's biggest concern.
The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension.
Regarding the lower numbers, they are only a concern if they are causing you problematic symptoms, such as dizziness, fainting, or weakness, according to the NIH. If they aren't, then lower numbers are a good thing.
I am also speaking from experience, being a heart and blood pressure patient, myself.
Are you on any other medications?
What time of day have you been checking your blood pressure?
Not really concerning I've lived my whole life with BP 80/45. It's fun sometimes if nurses aren't nice I won't tell them to use kids cuff just let them think their machines broken lol. It's definitely a number compatible with life just don't take anymore of the lisinopril or you will be in trouble. Contact your doctor though let them know for sure maybe it's too strong for you.
