Hello, Jim! How are you? I am very sorry about what happened to you.
However, if you're asking if what your doctor did was appropriate, then yes. There is nothing that says they have to wean you off, at all and no specific requirements for doing so.
As a matter of fact, as long as you're not in immediate life threatening danger, no doctor is obligated to treat you, at all.
This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
