Dad In Severe Pain - Hydrocod/apap 5/325 Not Helping. (Top voted first)
UpdatedMy dad (81 yr old, 125 lbs.) is prescribed Hydrocod/APAP 5/325. He's had back surgery several times, he swears the last doctor really screwed it up and no other doctor wants to touch it.
He is currently alternating Hydrocod/APAP 5/325 and Tramadol. All along he has said the Tramadol does NOTHING for him.
At points over the past year, and especially this past week the pain has gotten truly unbearable. Thursday morning he went in for a cortisone shot in the back. The Doctor said he could take 2 Hydrocod/APAP 5/325 at a time if needed. (even though my father says that 1 was doing absolutely nothing anymore, the doctor seems to think he is lying.) It is Sunday now and he has had absolutely no relief.
Is there some other medication alternative he should be asking for? I am completely unfamiliar with these drugs... at this point in time I wish I knew *something* to know which way to turn.
He is in such severe pain he has been asking family members if they have a gun!!! He wishes there was a pill to end it all. I have never seen him cry until recently. He is desperate.
I am frustrated because for years I keep hearing about all these people getting whatever the heck they want... why can't my 81 year old father get something that might work better for him?

81 years old and you're talking about it could be habit-forming really
Your dad is 81 years old and severe pain and he's doctors are worried about what exactly addiction is 81 years old what a shame
Your dad is 81 years old and doctors are letting him suffer in pain because they worry about addiction what a shame
All the news on tv is about the ones abusing meds but you never see or hear anything or
anyone speaking up for the people who really need pain relief. The ^%#*+*^##
politicians are no help at all. Somehow you can be sure it's all about money for them to graft off.
Old and in pain myself, God Bless us all!.
Has he ever tried Percocet?
It contains Oxycodone and Acetaminophen, the Oxycodone is stronger than the Hydrocodone in this.
Learn more Percocet details here.
It is also a narcotic, so it also has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, dizziness and constipation.
It's an idea that he could ask his doctor about.
Please see if a pain doctor will try what has COMPLETELY taken my back pain away after 5 years of HELL!!! I am on Fentanyl patches (Very dangerous). Be careful, and find a doctor that knows what he is doing to wean him onto and off of them. He MUST be opioid tolerant. By accident, they gave me valium to relax me for my 3rd set of MRI's. After that combo, my back pain completely went away. It is the weirdest thing!!! I had tried EVERYTHING!!! and I do mean EVERYTHING!!! Just happened to stumble across this by accident. GOD bless him, and I hope he finds some relief!!! It does make you want to die, rather than deal with the daily pain. I am not kidding though...These meds are ADDICTIVE and dangerous, but it is better than suicide! All of my prayers to him and your family!
