Desperate For Doctor In Nky

Hi we have moved to northern ky area our doctor in Louisville no longer wants to treat us due to the distance he has been our doctor for 15 years we need a good doctor who isn't afraid to prescribe my husband his pain medication he has had 4 shoulder surgeries and can no longer be helped all we can do is manage his pain does ANYONE KNOW A GOOD GP DOCTOR ?

It most likely isn't that he no longer wants to treat you, but that he can't, if your husband requires strong narcotic pain medications and regular monitoring. Some new laws have been put in place that place many more restrictions on that.

I'm also sorry to have to inform you that due to those new laws, you probably won't be able to find a general practitioner that will take on your husband as an ongoing patient for pain treatment.

There are some exceptions, but in most cases, anyone with chronic pain that requires long-term pain management treatment will have to start going to a pain management specialist.

In most cases, general practitioners and surgeons will only be able to prescribe opiates for short-term use, such as for a few weeks right after someone has had surgery or been in an accident and is recovering.

Restrictions are even being placed on some of the medications that can be used, for instance Vicodin/Norco is supposed to be transitioned over to a strictly short-term use medication for after surgery, or injury.

Is it possible that you could get your old doctor to recommend someone in that area for pain management?
