I am in the later stages of RSD and have tried ALOT of Rx that haven't helped. Has anyone else taken cymbalta for RSD & did it help? I am taking Cymbalta now and can't tell that it is helping at all. I take 30mg now and in 7 days start taking 60mg. Is there any Rx that you have/are taking either than Cymbalta that is helping w/RSD/CRPS pain? I have already tried trileptal, neurotin, gabitril and topomax which haven't helped the neuro pain. Open for any suggestions. Thanks.
I have rsd for close to three years had a knee replacement that was workers comp. which thrown every delay forms of treatment it can against me. Has gone from one leg, to both and now my back. I am on cycmbalta tried others and went back it did help. I have tried many drugs both lyrica, and celebrex had reactions to. .Take two forms of controlled medication along with many other drugs was approved and had a temp. spinal cord stimulator back in sept. and now workers comp. is still fighting a permanent one which did give me some relief. It is very frustrateing how insurance companys treat you.
Hi there from Australia. Took about 1 month to be diagnosed after Colles fracture. plate & 10 screws in L/wrist. Was then sent for 6 ganglion blocks on left side of neck done by specialist anaethetist - one each week. Not a nice experience but it STOPPED the awful burning. Still get some "electric arrows" in hand & arm but doing OK. On Gabapentin but am going to trial Cymbalata. Find that even small muscle or back pain strain is exacerbated by the RSD
Can anyone tell me if Cymbalta can be taken with Lyvoxyl? Don't want to mess with my thyroid because I have been taking thyroid meds for a few years. Any advice?
Since having a clot stroke in my brain stem in 2003 and my brain bleeding in places in 2004, I have had pain on my right side escalate to where i needed something. They tried the Nurontin (sp) it made me talk to people that were not there. They sent me to pain management (newest medical raquet) they put me on Lyrica max dose. I may as well have taken M&M's for the good it did. All it did was empty my wallet (the med was very expensive) and it also will put the pounds on you. I quit the Lyrica and asked my nurologist if I could try Oxycodone 5mg HCL (I take 2 four or five times per day for discomfort. It makes it where I am civil and can stand to do things. I know it's a controlled substance, but I just want to feel normal around my family. Without anything every day is like you rub some type of mentholated ointment on the right side of my body, especially large muscle groups, then add on that having fire ants on my right side. This is my life every day. Nothing has worked but the Oxycodone, thank goodness. if something better comes my way. My druggist says I should try Cymbalta, but from what I read it is same as Lyrica. God bless all people with chronic pain.
Have you tried Lyrica? I also have RSD pretty bad and I'm taking 300 mg. a day and it really helps. It started to work immediately for me.
I have had severe nueropathy in my feet for nine years! Now it is moving to my hands and fingers aaargh! I take Lyrica, elavil, carbidopa/levidopa, vicodin and use lidocaine patches on my feet. I also take cymbalta 60mg. It really helps, if I run out I notice the nueropathy pain starts to accelerate after 24 hours. recently I was put on a throid med. for low thyroid activity. then i saw one of those cymbalta commercials, at the end when drug interactions were mentioned it said cymbalta shoundn't be taken with thyroid meds. Does anyone know anything about this????????
I have had RSD for almost 6 years. It has entered the later stages. It is in my left foot/leg. I am 19 years old. This summer my DR put me on Cymbalta along with Neurontin. I take 1800 MG of Neurontin daily and 20MG soon to be 30 MG of Cymbalta daily. I am a bit scared of raising the dosage of the Cymbalta. Has anyone experienced problems when raising the dosage of Cymbalta?
RSD from MVA one year ago have tried many meds just started on cymbalta & lyrica--no help yet==I need advice and what kind of MD to go to for management of rsd/crps--I'm in Idaho & no doctors here seem to have any experience with this??need advice/also trying for SSDI but no news==Any suggestions
I have had RSD for 5 years and am 19 now. I have been on Neurontin for 5 years with a lot of success until this past year. I am now taking cymbalta on top of the neurontin and have a patch too. What kinds of side effects have people had on the cymbalta? I'm nervous about what is is going to do to me aside from helping the RSD
I'm in my 8th year with RSD (all 4 extremities) and, like most of you, have tried everything. For me, Cymbalta works very well along with Neurontin. During flare ups, the doc adds Ultram ER so I can tolerate waiting for a temporary catheter w/bulb until the ins co authorizes it. (smile) I also use Baclofen for the spasms during flare-ups.
Keep at it. You and your doc will find the right concoction for you. (smile)

I have had RSD for 10 years nothing helped. Finally the doctor put me on Cymbalta 60 mg and will be moving me up to 90 in about a month. It has helped greatly. I was skeptical at first ( I had reied so many that did nothing )
Now I am amazed!
I take 150Mg of Lyrica twice a day
not a cureall but I am mostly conforable with it.
I had facial(dental/sinus)pain beginning 10/07. Was given meds to clear infection and ended up in the hospital with Pancreatitis. Afterward I had sinus surgery, root canal, and finally extraction of the tooth(#14) with a root invading the sinus. Months ago. Still having facial dental/sinus pain. DDS said it is not my teeth. ENT said it is not my sinus. She gave me Cymbalta, about 2 months ago. I still have the pain however don't care that much about it, until it gets close to the time to take my next dose. Would hate to stop. My gums are constantly inflamed. The last CAT scan said I could have cancer or inflammation. Just great.
I was diagnosed with RSD about 3 years ago and I was prescribed lyrica(along with extensive therapy). It worked ok but it stopped being really affective after a few months so I switched to taking 60 mg of cymbalta and the pain is pretty much gone. I am a cheerleader for LSU and I am able to tumble on my hurt wrist (taped) with only the occasional pain.
I found 60mg Cymbalta with my Zonegram works very well. I am a long timer too and when they added the Cymbalta, that day it cleared up my legs so I could walk a little temporarily. It seems especially effective when used in conjunction with another nerve medicine.
I have been living with RSD since 2003. It started in my left ankle, then 2007 I was diagnosed with Full Body RSD, Fibromyalgia, Osteoporosis, and MS....full plate huh?? hahaha. I did take Cymbalta for a little bit until all my friends kept telling me that I wasn't myself and wanted to know what was wrong with me....So they put me on Lexapro along with Lyrica, Topamax, Clonidine, Actonel, and Tramadol. They all seem to work well together.
I know it is hard to cope with everything that is happening to your body, mind, and spirit right now, but there are methods / tools that you can do to help you handle things so much better so you can get your life back. I know this because I spent 5 years researching everything I could, everywhere I could on RSD and tried different methods. In 2007 I became the first known RSD Coach(TM), started a radio talk show to help everyone with different pain issues and am totally loving my life, pain and all, more than ever before. Here is my website if you would like to get some more information: http://www.awinninglifewithrsd.com
Hopefully I have helped you out some and I look forward to talking with you soon.
In His Glory,
Coach Marla
I am in the same stage as you with Cymbalta. I do not know how much it is helping at this point when I am also taking gabapentin and endocet.
Would have to stop the rest and see, Will have discussion with Doc about this when I go in for review.

long story short-
had 3rd baby by first c-section in november 2005.
chronic pain ever since.
felt horrible for a year and when i was diagnosed with a thyroid problem and an auto immune disease called Hashimatos (SP) i thought that was the answer.
depressed and struggling to care for my family i was put on cymbalta.
...and the pain was reduced while taking the 30's.
60 made the pain go away.
i finally felt better!!!!!!!!!
my thyroid was under control and i was no longer depressed.
....and then i went off of cymbalta.
It took about 6 days and then -
suddenly i felt as if my surgery was the previous day!!!!! I could not get out of bed!
Terrified and under the influence of no pain meds or treatment for the 1st time in 2 years...
(lortab, motrin, frequent acupuncture)
I realized that something was very wrong with me.

So to answer your question.

Cymbalta works in a very similar way to Lyrica, so it has helped some people who are suffering from conditions that result in nerve pain.
I tried both Gabapentin (Neurontin) and Cymbalta for my pain and didn't get good results from either one, because my pain is not caused by straight nerve problems.
However, a friend of mine, who was having trouble with pain in her upper back and neck after a car wreck has had good results with Cymbalta. She had all the tests, MRIs, X-rays, and etc. but no one could find why she was in pain and thus, they didn't want to believe her and acted like she was just making it up wanting drugs.
She finally got her doctor to send her to a specialist and he discovered the reason had to do with some nerves that were damaged in the car wreck and her regular job, which required repetitive motion, was not letting them have a break to heal up.
With the Cymbalta, which helps her rest and helps with her pain, she is doing much better.
Hey there, I am in the earlier stages of RSD (but it still hurts like nothing I have experienced in my life before). The doctor prescribed me Lyrica and it has done wonders for me. Hoe that helps!
