Thousands of bottles of a popular antidepressant medication are being recalled due to the presence of what the National Library of Medicine describes as a toxic chemical, according to a notice from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The recall involves the medication Duloxetine, which is sold under the brand name Cymbalta, according to the FDA's notice of the voluntary recall, which began Oct. 10th:
UpdatedI've always had poker straight hair my entire life. As a little girl, my mom would try and put curls in my hair on picture day and by the time got to school, hair was totally straight again! I'm 44 & have been taking Cymbalta 60mg x 3 years. My hair started with kind of a "beachy" wave where today it looks like I've had a perm. All along I've thought this was hormonal changes but this curl seems consistent with the time I started taking Cymbalta. I'm just curious-I find it incredibly strange that medication can do this to your hair!! I've asked my psychiatrist and my OB/GYN about it. Psych said he doubts it & OB/GYN said she wasn't aware of meds that can curl your hair like this. Wondered if others on Cymbalta have found the same thing happen,...
11 REPLIES UpdatedHas anyone tried Breckenridge Cymbalta? CVS changed. I was taking Prasco pharmaceuticals and had no issues. Just concern ## Have you tried taking it, yet? If so, have you noticed any difference? Not all medications, or their generics, work the same for everyone that tries them, so the only way to really know how it will work for you is by trying it. Does it cause you to experience any of the typical side effects, which are listed as possibly including nausea, somnolence, or dizziness according to the Cymbalta details page? ## I don’t take that, but I had to stop using CVS for my meds because they were ordering the most ineffective generics I have come across. Then Rite Aid must have changed distributors because they did too. Wallgreens isn’t in my network so I am trying to s...
10 REPLIES UpdatedI have been taking Cymbalta for 6 yrs. along with Wellbutrin (150mg) Could it cause sores in my mouth? Could it cause my hands to shake once in a while? ## Hi Mary, One of the side effects of Cymbalta (Duloxetine) is an "uncontrollable shaking of a part of the body". It can also cause blisters or peeling skin, rashes, hives, swelling in the face, and unfortunately, much more than this. The link below lists the vast majority of possible side effects, but I would highly recommend talking to your doctor about switching medications or opting for a natural alternative to this prescription if the side effects are too persistent or severe: I hope this info helps! ## I have been taking Cymbalta for many years and I see that I have many of the symptoms. What I fear is that the effect th...
32 REPLIES UpdatedI have been on Cymbalta for 7 yrs. For the last 4 yrs I've been on 120mg per day. I have dealt with many, many side effects, however it helped me so much I put up with them. But the last two years I started having severe heart palpitations and extreme bouts of fatigue. I had many cardiac test and was eventually diagnosed with a heart arythemia. And now last month I was diagnosed with adrenal insufficiency with my cortisol levels dangerously low. My FP doctor referred me to a Endocrinologist, but before I could get there I was hospitalized 4 days with pneumonia. Extreme Adrenal insufficiency causes fluid to build in your lungs. Coincidence? I don't know? Has anyone else on Cymbalta had symptoms of Adrenal fatigue? Has anyone else been on Cymbalta for 7-8 yrs? ## Actually, many me...
12 REPLIES UpdatedI have Sciatica, Spondeliosis, Degenerative Disc Disease and Fibromyalgia in both my hips & legs, I have had 3 sets of nerve blocker injections that did not help. I had a herniated disc, in my lower back, (scar tissue has entrapped nerve in it), intractable back pain, I have been falling a lot at home or if I am out somewhere. I get very confused and short term memory is really getting bad which is a symptom of Fibromyalgia, I don't want to go anywhere, I rarely see my friends. I feel like my feet and legs are running and my body is not catching up. I have also last year had left shoulder surgery for small tear in rotator cuff, bone spurs leaning on rotator cuff, osteoarthritis and fluid around the arthritis, 1 month after this surgery: I have what feels like electricity shocks ...
91 REPLIES UpdatedReading too many cons & not enough pros... Really want to see some positives in treating foot & leg pain, neuropathy, cramping & stiffness before I begin taking the 20mg a day recommended by neurologist office. Please advise. Thank you. I am almost 72. ## I tried cymbalta several years ago, it just made sick to the stomach, did not help my pain or depression, just had to try something else. presently taking oxycodone and gabapenten. Hope you can get some help, sam ## It's horrible. My Doc put me on it for the same symptoms you have. I had a minimally invasive lumbar surgery almost 10 weeks ago and have nerve pain/neuropathy. I had 3 MRI's to make sure I did not re-injure my back or neck, but that was clear. After taking just 3 doses of Cymbalta, I knew I could not to...
2 REPLIES UpdatedSo sorry about the long crazy title but I'm not in the best of shape. This is simply because it's the weekend and can't get my Cymbalta until tomorrow. Last nite was my second nite without it, 60 mg. I can't stop crying, ears ringing, head all funky etc... I have an important engagement I have to do today and just don't know if I can manage it. I read that Effexor has is the same type drug so was wondering if anyone had ever substituted? I know all the stuff about asking your doctor etc... but that is not possible. Not holding anyone liable, just needing info! Thanks! ps have not gotten deathly ill yet as I have in the past, knock wood!
UpdatedI’m a 72 year old who has been on 60mg Cymbalta plus 300-2400 mg gabapentin as needed for 4 years for neuropathic pain. The combination has been effective in lowering the baseline of my pain. During this time, however, I have gained a great deal of weight. Recently I’ve had aching and sometimes sharp pain near my liver. This is very concerning for me. I have also experienced blunted emotions during my entire time on these meds. Prior to starting this combo, I never experienced any mood disorder problems. Now that my neuropathic pain is under much better control, I decided to get myself off of the Cymbalta. I have been completely off these meds for 2 weeks+. My blunted emotions have been replaced by increased tearfulness, mood swings, increased irritation and mild outbursts o...
1 REPLY UpdatedCAN'T TELL YET HOW WELL IT'S WORKING FOR THE MIGRAINES, BUT SIDE EFFECTS ARE BLURRED VISION & EXACERBATION OF PARKINSON-LIKE SYMPTOMS, ESP. LOSS OF BALANCE. ## I don't know how old you are, but my doctor wants me to start Cymbalta for Fibromyalgia pain. BUT since I possibly could have Glaucoma, I can't start taking it as it will cause me to go blind if I have one of the two kinds of Glaucoma, which is wet or dry type. I will have a better diagnosis in October...but just make sure you have your eyes checked before taking Cymbalta!!! ## Cymbalta contains the active ingredient Duloxetine, it is an antidepressant that has also been known to help with some types of pain. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, high blood pressure, heartburn. As NAC stated, you s...
2 REPLIES UpdatedCan Cymbalta cause a slow heart rate..... braydacardia?? ## Hello, Jenni! How are you? How slow was the noted heart rate? According to the FDA listed side effects, Cymbalta is more commonly known to cause tachycardia, which is elevated heart rate, along with nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, mood changes, and weight changes. Ref: Medline Plus Cymbalta/Duloxetine Is the person that was affected on any other medications?
1 REPLY UpdatedNeeding to switch from name brand cymbalta 60 mg to generic. Does anyone know the best generic? When I tried yrs ago it felt like it wasn't doing anything. ## I find all generics of Cymbalta useless. I pay more for the original Eli Lilly brand name. I have been using Cymbalta since my second lumbar spine laminectomy in 2005. ## Not every medication works for everyone that tries it, and that includes generics. As to your feeling like it didn't do anything, how long did you take it? Most medications like this take about 4 to 6 weeks to reach their full level of efficacy in your body, so you do have to take them for awhile to see if it will begin to help you. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, mood changes, and weight changes....
5 REPLIES UpdatedI went off of Cymbalta cold turkey and I would like to know what effects i will experience from going off of this medication ? ## If you are still alive seek help, it can kill you. www.antidepressantsfacts.com read about Traci Johnson. Please never take or let anyone you know take it, but if you do you MUST KNOW and pass it along. My prayers Love and Light, Brad ## I'm sure your Dr told you not to ever go off your drug without tapering off. It could cause major problems in your brain and system doing so. ## What dosage were you taking, and how often were you taking it? Cymbalta contains the active ingredient Duloxetine, it is most commonly used to treat depression, anxiety, and nerve pain. The FDA warns that a sudden withdrawal creates the risk of rebound depression, rebound pain, a...
3 REPLIES UpdatedHelp I'm on day 8 of going off cymbalta and I'm in so much pain I can't sleep my side hurts and I'm so down I just don't think I'm going to make it thru another day any help out there ## Hi Machelle, I'm sorry to hear that you're having a hard time with the Cymbalta withdrawal process. You're definitely not alone! As you probably know, for drugs like this the safest way to stop taking them is usually to taper off of them, if possible. Some medications can be taken in fractions (actually cut into pieces) and these smaller pieces can be taken in place of the regular dose for a period of several weeks until the body is no longer dependent upon them. In addition to that, I'd also suggest making yourself a tapering schedule on a calendar to track your ...
8 REPLIES UpdatedI have been taking cymbalta, after zoloft didn't work any more I am also taking lyrica, a long with ambian my ambian was stopped then i was given rotinin they stopped that 1 month ago because it did not mmix with lyrica my problem is the hot flashs the sweats and still depressed with pain in my legs side and now gitters any answer for me please. ## Yes, I started takiCymbalta 60 mg three months ago for depression and I find it works quite well, and I haven't noticed any side effects. Over the past 20 years, I've tried them all and have had side effects from them all. So far, I haven't noticed any from Cymbalta -- yet!!! ## Telling someone that has had depression for years and that they don't know how to treat it, I don't believe is a factual statement. First of a...
6 REPLIES UpdatedHas anybody experienced buzzing or ringing in their ears from Cymbalta? It's called tinnitus. ## It is possible, but not common, and when someone does experience it as a side effect from Cymbalta, it usually goes away in a few weeks, since such side effects are transient, and tend to go away, once your body gets used to the medication, according to FDA reports. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, appetite loss, weight changes, and laryngitis. Are you on any other medications? ## Change your anti depressant. I have Tinnitus but not from any drugs. Whenever you “ experience” a symptom of a side effect, it needs to be changed. Usually the older antis are the better ones. I only notice my tinnitus when it’s very quiet. There are also soft noise ...
2 REPLIES UpdatedHello all! I first posted on here about 5 days ago. I said I'd be back to give you guys an update to how I was feeling stopping Cymbalta 30mg cold turkey. Well today is day 6 and I feel great!! Little to no symptoms at all. I have so much energy now!! WOW!! ## Yikes. It really isn't a good idea to stop taking an antidepressant cold turkey, unless your doctor or pharmacist tells you too. You risk have nasty withdrawal symptoms. Tapering off any drug usually takes only a few days, so why put yourself through more hell? Cymbalta helps my diagnosed pain. I've had to come of it a couple times and the pain returned very quickly. It doesn't do anything for my depression, though. ## Cymbalta is one of the hardest drugs I ever had to come off of. The side effects are horrific. I ...
3 REPLIES UpdatedDoes anyone have urinary problems whilst taking Cymbalta ? I am now taking 60mg in the morning and 30mg in the evening. It is weird - if I just ‘think’ that I should need to wee, I can suffer from an urgency to do so and then I never pass a lot. I sometimes have to ‘concentrate’ to allow the flow of wee to start and then it is slow and I never pass much. In fact I never seem to pass much wee no matter how much liquid I drink. Just overall odd urinary symptoms. ## Yes, Cymbalta has been known to cause some urinary issues, such as frequency, as side effects, along with nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and weight changes. Are you on any other medications? Do you have high blood pressure? ## Hi ! Thanks for your reply ?? I have slightly raised blood pressure a...
2 REPLIES UpdatedI wake up most nights around 2:00-3:00 and feel like I am in some crazy video game. I feel super dizzy, feel like the room is full of strobe lights, experience brain zaps and have crazy dreams. My neurologist said he has never heard of some of these symptoms and I am wondering if anyone has experienced this. I am on 90 mg. of cymbalta for my fibromyalgia. ## Unfortunately, doctors don't usually know as much side effect information as a pharmacist, or researcher would. Diagnosing, and treating are their areas of expertise, but in most cases, they only know the basic side effects that most medications might cause. As to the Cymbalta, poor quality sleep, psychomotor restlessness, dizziness, and sensory disturbances have all been noted as being side effects according to FDA reports. My ...
2 REPLIES UpdatedAm taking 60mg per day, but still feel depressed. How high can you go withthis drug? ## Hello, Dee! How are you? I am very sorry about the problem you're having. 60mgs is usually the maximum dosage for this medication, it's not been shown to have any greater benefit in higher amounts. How long have you been taking the current dosage? It can take about 4 to 6 weeks for it to reach its full level of efficacy in the body, so you know how well it is working for you. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and weight changes. ## How many zopiclone 7.5 do people take if they have a reasonable tolerance.
