Crushing Bactrim Pills

Is it OK to crush the pills of Bactrim and mix them in applesauce before taking? I havea real phobia about swallowing pills of any kind and my doctor syas it only comes in pill form

I known this is late, but for future ref I just crushed my pill and put it in a PBJ (if you don’t have any allergies to nuts ! )

Compared to a few other pills I crush so I can swallow them, I don't find Bactrim all that bad.

Personally, I take it with ice water. The cold helps reduce the flavor a bit & because it's just water & not something with flavor or sweetness, it doesn't interact with the taste of the drug or make it worse/bitter. I did try it with Vitamin Water & yup, that was pretty nasty. :)

I tried mixing it with peanut butter and nearly choked to tears, but finally got it down with a large glass of water. Phew. Wish it was a smaller pill.

Is it ok to crush trimethoprim and put it in some ribeana cordial and swallow it? Will it still work? I really can't swallow tablets.

My daughter has a hard time taking medication of any kind and/or form. I've been crushing these pills and mixing them with her favorite ice cream. The apple sauce didn't really work well but the ice cream is working. She likes mint chocolate chip ice cream. I would choose something that has a strong flavor to mask the bitterness. I am taking Bactrim as well, its hard for me to swallow pills, due to my large tonsils. Because of that, I have created a phobia. There is a liquid form but its about $130.00 (Walmart pharmacy). I just tried to put it in apple sauce crushed, but it tasted disgusting. I did how ever try it with the berry flavored apple sauce, maybe the apple flavor is better. The pill tasted very bitter. Its terrible. I am also looking for a tasty way to take it. The pharmacist said use peanut butter, that I haven't tried. I hope you find what you need. God bless!

Yes, you can do that with these. The only time it is not safe to do so is if the medication is time released.

Bactrim contains the active ingredients Sulfamethoxazole and Trimethoprim, it is an antibiotic.

Common side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, skin rash and diarrhea.
