Correct Daily Dosage Of Hydrocodone-acetaminophen 7.5-3.25

What is the correct daily dosage for severe arthritis? The E/R physician initially prescribed one or two tablets every 4 to six hours. My regular physician has changed the dosage to one tablet every four hours, but she did not specify the maximum number of tablets that could be taken in a 24 hour period. I really would appreciate having your guidance on this matter, as neither physician is 'reachable' at present.

Hello, Bud! How are you doing? Sorry about the arthritis pain.

And yes, your doctor did specify. One tablet every 4 hours means exactly that, she doesn't want you to take multiples and you should follow her prescribing instructions.

The Acetaminophen in this risks liver damage or failure if taken in high amounts for a long period of time, thus it isn't safe to continue doubling up on the pills indefinitely in the manner that the ER doctor prescribed them. They will often do that in an emergency situation, to help get your pain under control faster, but it is only meant to be a temporary thing, until you can see your PCP and explore your regular treatment options.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
