Correct Dosage Of Meds

My daughter is 14 yrs old and 120 lbs and 5 ft 9 in. She went to doc this am for strep like symptoms, but it came out neg but doc prescribed liquid amoxicillin (7ml) every 12 hrs. Her throat is feeling worse - could she have the wrong dosage?

Amoxicillin comes in 125 mg, 250 mg, and 400 mg per 5 cc. The top reasonable dose is 90 mg per Kg, and she is about 55 kg. Amoxicillin is usually given 2 or 3 times per day. So - bottom line I don't think she is in danger of too high a dose.

I'm trying to figure out why the doctor even prescribed an antibiotic if the results came back negative for an infection? That just doesn't make any sense logically, unless there's something we don't already know?

And with her throat now feeling worse after taking it, I wonder too if the amoxicillin could be the cause of this, being that a "sore throat" is also listed as potential side effect of amoxicillin on the page for the US National Library of Medicine at:

While side effects like this may be uncommon, I think it's still something that should probably be taken into consideration if her throat seems to get worse after taking each dose.

Have you tried utilizing any natural alternatives (i.e. manuka honey, tea, essential oils, and other immune boosters?)
