Is it legally required to consult with the pharmacist when filling a new prescription?

Hello Missy,

I was not able to find any federal laws that state this is a requirement, however, I was able to find documentation in the state of California on the pharmacy government website that states "since the early 1990s, California has required pharmacists to consult patients (or their agents) on all new medications or medications with changed directions for use or changed dosing."

[1] Patient Consultation

I was unable to find any information on other states that claims this to be true so it is entirely possible that it is the only state that has this law.

I hope this information helps.
