Coming Off After 15 Years
UpdatedI have been reducing my tablets from Jan. of this year after been on them on 50mg at night for lack of sleep. I was told that when I tried before to come off it was a relapse I was having, instead I now believe these were withdrawal symptoms. I am now down to 20mg and will be going down a quarter of a tablet after Christmas. It has to be slow, when I am on the last one it will have to be slower yet. After every cut a leveling off is very important. The last reduction was three months ago. I do not like the feeling in my chest so I decided to go down very slow now and so far have no problem but the danger is when one comes off too quick.

You are correct!
Though technically what you experienced if you stopped taking them too abruptly before was a rebound effect, rather than a relapse or withdrawal. You can usually tell the difference, because the rebound effects can actually be worse than what you ever started it taking it for to begin with.

So yes, a very slow taper needs to be done, especially when you have been on this type of medication for a long period of time.
When are you planning to lower your dosage again?
