Where can I purchase the comfortine sauce, and, have you ever used the comfortine in question? The product was amazing...
Comfortine was originally made by William H.Rorer Pharmaceutical-company (I actually typed the formula cards for their products in the 50s, 60s); this was a wonderful product for diaper rash, as most people here have said, & many other skin problems. I worked for Rorer on Stenton Ave. in Philadelphia, then Fort Washington until 1963–I understand they were bought out by a German Co.—someone on this thread said she found it in a German Deli in Texas—I’m going to try to find it—Good luck to all!

On a trip to Paris I think I found something similar. It is called Calmoseptine Ointment (NDC 0799-0001), containing Menthol and Zinc Oxide. Available through Amazon in USA {aff link}
Re: Cathie (# 10)
Hi Cathie. I remember comfortine. I dont know what was in the product. I can only guess. About a million years ago my great grandfather made a tincture that called for a product called dermeze . For some reason they stopped making this product. He used the tincture for excema. And it worked. I for some reason feel that maybe comfortine had this ingredient in it. Still doing research. Will try to let you know what i find.
Re: Gloria (# 3)
Used it 50 some years ago for my 1st son. Best thing ever but can’t find it for my grandchildren.
You know we are getting old when we are looking for the butt creams our mothers used on us so we can pass on to our grand babies that magical creame!!My mom sent me a case when I was in Vietnam best gift our platoon ever received
Re: Pam (# 2)
I recall Comfortine being made by McNeil Labs in Ft Washington, PA. I live nearby, and a neighbor used to work there and get samples for me. It was the ONLY product that worked on my son's diaper rash!
Comfortine sauce, used for diaper rash. It is a pink sauve in a jar. It stains the clothes.
My ob/gyn has recommended a product called Resinol which sounds like the old Comfortine which I used in the 60's for diaper rash on my girls. Nothing healed diaper rash like Comfortine. Only problem was it stained cloth diapers with the pink ingredient.
I have had a hard time finding Resinol. It is on the internet, and a small local pharmacy, but not a chain carries it.
I think Comfortine was made by a pharmacist in Charlottesville, Va in a small pharmacy near the barracks road shopping center. When the pharmacist retired, I think it disappeared. It really was The best cream out there, my mom used it on me, and Now I wish I could find some for my baby.
It's a shame that it just disappeared. Wonder why? I remember Comfortine well. I was born in 1953. I remember a time when my brother and I were unsupervised for a period of time and got into the cream. We were fascinated by the pink color...so what does any 3 yr old go and do... you try and eat it. Yuck, I don't think we ever tried it again. However I do remember my Mom using it on both my brother and myself. I would love to find it for my grandbaby's.
I have been looking for YEARS for comfortine and "tickled" that there are actually people that remember it!!! The closest I have come to finding it is a product called "Penaten".......it feels and works the same but it comes in a tin and is not pink. I found it by googling it and it is sold in a little German deli in Texas. (it's a German product)
I am not sure if you can get comfortine any more but there is a German Deli in Texas that sells the closest thing to is......the product is called "Penaten"........it is from Germany. It feels and works just like comfortine but is not pink and it comes in a tin not a tube. hope this helps!
I have also been looking for this ointment. It is the best for diaper rash...better than any thing else out there. The last time I bought it was about 30 years ago.
I have been looking for it too. I am looking at a tube of it right now. It's name is Comfortine Medical Ointment and is/was made by dermik laboratories, inc. in
Fort Washington, PA, but I have had no success in finding on line purchasing.
Do you remember when was the last time you came across this product? Have not had any luck finding it either. It's too bad when good products are discontinued or suddenly disappear. From what I have gathered this ointment contains Zinc Oxide + Vitamin A + Vitamin D (from Cod Liver Oil) as the effective ingredients. There are other topical Zinc based ointments out there, but none with that exact formulation. Another possibility would be to see if a pharmacist could create a custom compound based on those ingredients. Has anybody else had any luck finding this or a similar product??
