Combining Lyraca And Gabapentin

I have been taking Neurontin and Lyraca together for six months, with no pain reduction. My Dr. recently suggested eliminating Neurontin and taking Lyraca only. I was told that Neurontin and Lyraca taken together "cancel each other out". Any help on this subject?

Hi Gus,

I actually came up on information stating that there are interactions found between Neurontin (gabapentin) and Lyrica (pregabalin).

The interaction warning between these two medications states:
"Central nervous system- and/or respiratory-depressant effects may be additively or synergistically increased in patients taking multiple drugs that cause these effects, especially in elderly or debilitated patients."

"During concomitant use of these drugs, patients should be monitored for potentially excessive or prolonged CNS and respiratory depression."

Based on the info above, I wouldn't think "canceling each other out" is the right way to put it, but to some degree that makes sense since your body can only handle one of the medication's "depressant effects" at a time. That's just my educated opinion.
