Colorado Laws Limit Opioid Dose Under 120mg. Per Day.
UpdatedDoes anyone have problems with the new Colorado "Recommendations" Laws that limits non-cancer patients to 120mg. per day? I have had 4 different doctors quit because it's become ridiculous for them in helping actual patients. I have been disabled since 1996 and have undergone 11 abdominal surgeries. I have never abused pain medication, nor filled one early. I understand trying to stop the illicit drug and Script abuse, but they are hurting myself and other legitimate patients. I wish there was a group who had the ability to bring a legal case against these policies, or something to help. The current 120mg. limit just isn't helping enough to stop pain, but it seems there is no choice. No wonder people turn to illicit drugs. Anyone else with the same problem? I would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Hello, Flip! How are you? I'm sorry that you're so miserable, it is terrible what some people are now going through.
This whole thing started via a recommendation from the DEA, they requested that doctor's limit non-terminal patients to no more than the equivalent of 120mgs of Morphine per day and some states have gone even further and made it a law that it must be done, while some others made it a law and lowered it even further to no more than the equivalent of 100mgs per day.
As I said, however, the exceptions aren't just for cancer patients, they are made for anyone with intractable pain due to a possibly fatal condition, regardless of what condition it may be.
Many people have encountered problems from these new limits being enforced and I feel bad for all of you.
Is there anyone else in Colorado dealing with this?
Thanks Verwon for the reply, I've written to my local Congressman, but I doubt anything will come of it. I just don't see how this doesn't go against patient rights. I hope some group can get together and change these policies before more patients have no choice but take street drugs. I don't think it's coincidence the rise in illicit drug use has doubled.
Even though I am disabled, I was able to function as a human being until Colorado enacted its new Oxycontin dosage limitations. Now I am restricted to total bed rest as my pain is more than I can handle on my new lower dosage. I have fought very hard- trying every physical as well as mental therapy possible to overcome this pain, but to no avail. I have lost nearly 30 pounds, a lot on my now 110 pound body, in this struggle over the past few months. Now I just lay in bed and scream. I do not know how long I will decide to continue.
I know I am not alone in this as everytime I have visited my pain specialist since the new law was enacted there were patients crying in the waiting room.
I think the pain docs know what they are doing. Can't say the same for drug task forces.
