I'm not sure if the information I'm finding is referring to a specific country or if it's just in general. But from what I could gather, over the counter sales of cold tablets which use the methamphetamine precursors "ephedrine and pseudoephedrine" are said to be banned soon under a new parliament.

Although they are effective cold remedies, the reason behind the ban is that these ingredients are used for the illegal manufacture of methamphetamine; and when the bill becomes law the tablets which use them will then be available by prescription-only.

Perhaps there may be other underlying reasons behind this ban in India, but you would have to confirm this with your local pharmacy for more details on the topic.
