I suffer from cluster headaches and I was put back on Amitriptyline 10MG for this. I just found out I am pregnant yesterday. Do I need to stop taking this medicine? Please say that it wont hurt anything.

Hi Mellisa - sorry to hear about your cluster headaches, but congratulations on your pregnancy! While I don't want you to be too alarmed, Amitriptyline is in pregnancy category D in the USA which states "There is positive evidence of human fetal risk based on adverse reaction data from investigational or marketing experience or studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks."

So in other words, your doctor needs to be made aware of your pregnancy ASAP (if you haven't already told them) so that they can make an informed decision as to whether or not continuing this medication is warranted. Hope this helps and I hope you will have a healthy pregnancy and baby!
