No registration is required and your identity remains anonymous. My 88 year old mother had a minor cerebral posterior stroke July 30 and was started on Clonidine. About one week later she started to feel like she needed to urinate frequently, almost as soon as she had returned to her chair. Two months later, she is still feeling that way. Could it be the Clonidine even though that is not listed as one of the side effects? Has anyone else seen this? I have read extensively about the type of stroke she had and do not find anything about urinary problems. ## Hello, Missy! How are you? The FDA does list urinary issues as being a possible side effect of this medication, including urinary retention, and increased amounts of urine. Others may possibly include nausea, fever, irritability, and mental depression. Is she on any other medications? There is also ...
My wife is taking it she is detoxing off oxy's and her psychiatrist prescribed her clonidine she's stage 1 bipolar it seems to help with her mood but it makes her so drowzy and we have a baby this makes her very depressed. Will the drowsiness go away and if so how long does it take? ## Hello, Rick! How is your wife doing? Has there been any change? The drowsiness might actually be due to a double whammy, withdrawal effects from stopping the Oxycodone, and side effects from starting the Clonidine, and yes, things should eventually improve, as her body adjusts. She may also experience headache, dizziness, and diarrhea, according to the FDA. ## Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't answer the time frame part of your question, it can vary from person to person, but on average, most people...
I've been on Clonidine for about 6 months .2mg three times a day. I asked my Doctor if he can change my medication. He gave my Hydralize 50mg to help me when off it and told me to reduce the dose of Clonidine from .2mg to .1mg. Is this a good plan? ## Hello, Rami! How are you? For the best results, it is always a good idea to follow your doctor's instructions and advice. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Hydralazine as possibly including dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, and sedation. Have you made the change, yet?
i've only taken 6 pills about two weeks ago and i need to know if it will show on a drug test? ## No, it shouldn't, Clonidine is not a substance that's tested for on standard drug tests, because it's not in any of the commonly abused drug categories. Learn more Clonidine details here. Did you perhaps mean you took Clonazepam, the active ingredient in Klonopin? Learn more Klonopin details here. ## If i have high liver enzymes of 540 and i took clonidine , librium and motrin for 20 days how long can a benzo show up positive in my ua? ## Apples! Because all trains fly kites. ## Librium is a benzo, that is how. Bad news is it stays in your system for a long ass time. Unless you are using it to come off of Xanax or other benzos, why in the world are you taking it? Are you sur...
My doctor has started me on clonidine pills, taking them 2-3 times per day. I was told by a nurse that he has me taking too many. Should I be concerned? ## Hi Pamela, u didn't mention the reason why the doc has u taking it or the mg. it is. (theres many reasons docs prescribe it). Anyway, my doc prescribed it to help with the side effect of extreme sweating I get from being on methadone (in case ur not familiar, methadone is a med that helps keep people off pain pills). I'm not a junkie however from a few scripts for legit pain pills from doc it got me hooked. However, with the help from the methadone I've been completely clean 8yrs now. Anyway, my doc gave me 0.2mg of clonidine & said to take 3 times a day. However I only take it once maybe twice only on days I really r...
What is the best way to taper Clonidine and move to my doctors preferred high Blood Pressure medicine, Amlodipine (5MG 1 pill once a day)? I have been on Clonidine (0.1 MG 1 pill twice a day) for 6 days. Should I taper? How should I taper. Pharmacist thought I could drop Clonidine immediately and move to Amlodipine since I have been on Clonidine for only 6 days. I think my DR said to take one Clonidine and then later in the day one Amlodipine (or vice versa). For how many days I do not know. I will call the office in the morning for more instructions. I worry because I do not know if it was the Amlodipine that made my blood pressure spike so high and I do not want the same thing to happen when I drop Clonidine for Amlodipine Worrisome. I have purchased my own blood pressure machine. Wha...
I am taking femedipine er and clonodine 3 times a day and for spikes 0.2. Some days it keeps me down to 130/80 but some days im 155/95. What would you recommend to keep blood pressure level steady? ## Hello, Perla! How are you? You will never hit one steady number and stay there, it will always change, according to the NIH, depending on your activity levels, the foods you eat and etc. Have you been checking it at the same time of day, or at different times? Has anything changed in your diet? Do you eat a lot of salty or fatty foods? Have you been checking it while sedentary or after being active? Often, the easiest things we can do to help are proper exercise and dietary improvements, such as keeping our sodium and fat intake as low as possible.
My grandchildren both take Clonidine for ADHD. One of them is out of their prescription of the 0.3mg pill. Would it be okay to give him 2 of the 0.1mg (for a total of 0.2mg) pills until his prescription gets refilled? ## Hello, Deb! How are you and your grandkids? You should check with his doctor first, but in theory there shouldn't be anything wrong with doing so… however, you may end up running the other child short on their medication. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, anxiety, headache and hypotension. Is there anything else I can help with?
I took Clonidine for three years for high blood pressure. I had severe itching and stinging in both shoulders intermittently. I was miserable. It took me three years to confirm that Clonidine was the culprit. The doctor didn't believe me so ordered x rays for neck arthritis. Nothing showed up but a touch of arthritis. I'm completely free of the Clonidine symptoms now that I've cut out Clonidine. Not one single Doctor thought Clonidine could have such debilitating symptoms that I faced. This is for anyone out there who is suffering from side effects of Clonidine. ## Hello, Debra! I am very sorry about what you've been through. It is sad that your doctor didn't believe you. The symptoms you've described are listed as possible side effects to this medication, accordi...

I've been on the clonidine 0.2mg transdermal for almost a year with very good results. For about 2 wks now my bp has been around 150/90. Could the clonidine be losing effect on my bp? Before starting clonidine my bp was 200/110 and hr was 140 for weeks. Lisinopril 40mg did nothing but give me severe nausea and diarrhea. ## Hello, Buffy! How are you? Yes, your body will eventually get used to anything that you ingest for a long period of time and it will no longer be as effective. Sometimes it takes years for some people, but for others it may take only a few months. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and insomnia. Have you informed your doctor?
I was prescribed clonidine weekly patches to help with hot flashes. Worked great for hot flashes; continued with patches, other symptoms began and I thought they were peri-menopausal. After several months my skin began to itch, shortly after itch then I developed a rash; wearing patch became intolerable. I just stopped wearing the patch. But then those hot flashes were unbearable and went back to Dr. requesting the medication in pill form. Dr. obliged, and I thought I was a happy camper. But. . . I had a severe allergic reaction. Eyes swollen, head and body aches, drowsy, just felt really weird. Looked on internet and found that I had been having numerous severe side effects for months. My question is how long will it take for the symptoms to subside. ## I am very sorry about what happe...
I was prescribed .01mg of Clonidine for anxiety and impulse control. At no time did my doctor check my blood pressure or warn me that this medication is often used to significantly lower blood pressure. This is a problem for me since my blood pressure has always been dangerously low. I was told by a different doctor to stop it immediately since I have been passing out and always dizzy to the point where I can rarely see straight. So I stopped it on January 22, 2016 and I'm still having trouble. My question is simply, how long should it take for the Clonidine to get completely out of my body? I'm 23, 5 foot 6 and weigh 135lbs. I have been taking it for a little over 6 months. Any response would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. ## Hello, Niki! How are you? After 6 months, it could ...
I have been on clonidine now for approx 10 months, for high blood pressure. The doctors had tried several other medications but I had so many reactions and issues we decided that the clonidine patch would work best and it has. Yes there is some fatigue and some up and down numbers but in general I have done well. MY BP was all stress related , no non medical reason. So in the past couple of months have been able to alleviate most of the stress (refinance) and I started 500mg magnesium daily and within a month my BP is getting lower and lower and lower. I was wearing 4mg of clonidine and taking (2) 1mg pills during the day as needed. Now I am down to only 2mg a day and still my BP is staying below 115/64 which is vampire state for me. (my numbers were up in the 180/100 range) soooooooooo...
Are the Clonidine U-135 pill the same as the Clonidine R-127?? I got them from two different doctors and I wasn't sure if they were the same. They have a different taste. The u-135 are white ovals and are tasteless and the round orange R-127 have a horrible taste. ## Yes, they have just been manufactured by different companies, in this case Unichem Pharmaceuticals and Actavis respectively. The taste can just vary, depending on the inactive ingredients they choose to use in them. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, hypotension, mood changes, tiredness and irritability. Is there anything else I can help with?
i have a white round pill that say's novo only on one side and its not a capsul it's chalky and im wondering what this is and what it is used for. ## Hi junior, I'm pretty certain that I located a match to the pill you are describing. This "chalky" white round pill is engraved with: no|vo on scored side and 0.1 on unscored side. The pill is identified as Novo-Clonidine (0.1 mg) Clonidine has been prescribed historically as an antihypertensive drug, but has found new uses, including treatment of some types of neuropathic pain, opioid detoxification, sleep hyperhidrosis, anaesthetic use, and off-label, to counter the side effects of stimulant medications such as methylphenidate or amphetamine. It is becoming a more accepted treatment for insomnia, as well as for relief...
My 6 year old has adhd and asd he usually takes clonidine to get to sleep at night and we ran out, what else can I give him he didn't go to sleep til 3:30am ## I'd suggest getting in touch with his doctor for a refill, or to see what else would be safe to give him. Running out has probably caused a rebound effect, which resulted in him having insomnia. Is on any other medications? The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and sedation.
Just had an A Fib episode and blood pressure shot up to 187/107. When I have combination of both, I take 1 mg Clonidine tablet recommended by ER doctor. I already take metoprolol twice a day plus a Clonidine patch and Multaq twice daily for the A Fib. Taking the Clonidine tab when bp is this high has kept me out of the ER. This started at 8 pm and by 10 pm my blood pressure dropped to 134/87 and I was back in rhythm. Multaq has been a blessing, I do not feel palpitations in the chest when I have my episodes. I usually get short of breath really fast that is an indicator for me. ## Hi MeeMaw, Sorry to hear about your recent episode with A-Fib. I hope you've managed to get things under control by now. Do you know what it was that might've initially triggered the onset of this atri...
My daughter has been on clonidine for approx 10yrs...she is 17 now. Lately she has had several issues with extremely low bp that she has been hospitalized for...they now keep asking us if she is taking extra meds to cause this..we have her meds they are regulated very well and we only get 30 a month and the right amount is still in there...I'm wondering after all these years of taking it could she suddenly start having all these side effects. Even though her dosage hasn't changed...she takes .01 mgs at bedtime...to help with her bp and heart rate to sleep from her adhd...any input would be greatly appreciated ## Yes, even if someone has taken a medication for a long period of time, without problems, it's always possible for issues to suddenly occur, because our bodies do cha...
