Clonidine is an amazing medication that has multiple medical uses, including treating high blood pressure, some sleep disorders, ADHD, and many others.
The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, insomnia, headache, and mood changes.
Are there any markings on the tablets in question?

How old is your son? I was prescribed Clonidine by my pediatric neurologist at age 16. At that point I had daily headaches and chronic migraine since the age of 5. I did NOT have high blood pressure. I was also given the 0.01mg. I took for a few months and, if I remember correctly, it was making me too drowsy, not helping my headaches, and I was taken off of it. At that low of a dose, which I believe is what your son is taking, there, apparently, was no risk as far as blood pressure goes. Again, I was 16 at the time. Fast forward 10 years and I was put back on it again for the same headache disorder, but, I also had high B.P. at the time. I was kept on it for a year at a higher dose. I ran out one time and didn't take it and I had HORRIBLE withdrawals!!!! Uncontrolable restless legs. It was one of the worst experiences of my life. I had to go to the ER. It was just awful. Unfortunately, I was NOT told that this medication would cause withdrawal. I should have done more research. As far as your son goes, according to my Pediatric Neurologist, at that very low dose that he is on, there is not much affect on an adolescent's B.P. At that age, I don't believe my B.P. changed much, if at all. Just watch over him; check for dizziness and light headedness. Get up slowly, just in case. If you are worried or he is having any of those symptoms, get a home blood pressure monitor at the drug store. Also, always talk with the the Dr. about any and all concerns. They are human and don't know everything. If you are still concerned, please get a second opinion. How old is your son and for what condition was he prescribed the Clonidone? Also, please talk to the Dr. about the withdrawals from this medication. If it is not absolutely necesary, I, personally would ask for something different. It is a B.P. medication and there are tons of others he could take that DON'T cause withdrawals.
