Clindamycin Using Way Beyond Shelf Life.,,effects

i have an artificial hip. i need to premed with clindamycin..had a root canal and i premeded and was given clindamycin to take for a week...i didnt pick up the prescription for about 4 days. i have the new, but i had some left over from 20006 and thought i would use those up first. i have been doing that, but am afraid that they are no good and that i may be getting an infection in my hip and joints from not taking the good stuff. i started taking the good new medicine tonight..but i am having joint pain and i have like a large hive near my shoulder joint. i am scheduled for the 2d part of the root canal next tuesday. i know i messed up. can someone tell me if i take the good stuff for the full treatment of 6 more days and have already taken the old stuff for 4 am i at risk of overdosing on it and getting a reaction, which i may already be doing.

Clindamycin is an antibiotic, therefore to overdose, you'd really have to take an extreme amount of it.

As to the leftover ones from the old prescription, no, you should not have used those, medications do lose effectiveness over time, so an old antibiotic will not work as well as a new one to prevent infections.

As to continuing with the new prescription for the full course of treatment, you should check with your doctor or dentist to be certain, but it is probably advisable to do so.
