Clindamycin And My Child

My daughter was prescribed clindamycin for impetigo for 10 day/2pills/3 times daily. The pharmacy we have in our town doesn't provide the information sheets with prescriptions so I often times look up the meds myself. I read that when giving this medicine to children organ system function monitoring is desirable. Is that for long term usage or something I should push with my doctor now? Thanks.

First, if the pharmacy isn't giving you the information sheets, then they are not dispensing prescriptions properly. They are required to at least offer them to you, with every prescription. That can be reported to your state pharmacy board and they will made to correct this issue.

And yes, it does say that they doctor should monitor organ system function in any child under 16, while taking this. Have they set up a return appointment? If not, you should contact them to do so.

The FDA lists the typical side effects of this antibiotic as possibly including nausea, dizziness, diarrhea and non-allergic skin rash.
