What is this drug used for. Is it infection of bladder or prostate?

have had prostittis for 10 years am on hytrin, is there a better drug fpr handling this proble?

Hi Janis,

Ciprofloxacin is limited to the treatment of proven bacterial infections such as:

-Urinary tract infections (not recommended as a first-line antibiotic due to bacterial resistance)
-Acute uncomplicated cystitis in females
-Chronic bacterial PROSTATITIS (not recommended as a first-line antibiotic choice)
-Lower respiratory tract infections (not recommended as a first-line antibiotic choice)
-Acute sinusitis (not recommended as a first-line antibiotic choice)
-Skin and skin structure infections
-Bone and joint infections
-Infectious diarrhea
-Typhoid fever (enteric fever) caused by Salmonella typhi

Although Ciprofloxacin can be used in the treatment of prostatitis, I cannot say whether or not this is a better option for YOU than what you are currently taking. You would have to contact your doctor and weigh out any pros and cons in comparing the two medications and through trial and error decide which one works best; because individual can react differently to the same medication. Obviously, as stated above, Ciprofloxacin is not recommended as a first-line antibiotic choice for this treatment, so you may or may not be taking something stronger already. Hope this helps!
