Cipro Vs Cleocin
UpdatedI have no known other allergies except for Ciprofloxacin which almost killed me. If my lab work hadn't checked out, they were going to put me on dialysis. Currently my dentist prescribed Cleocin. Is there a conflict? I have taken Amoxicillin, Penicillin, and Augmentin with no side effects. Please help

Did you get a response at all? I took this med recently and am having some real issues but so far the doctor doesn't believe it relates to this med. I'm having difficulty walk and distance and feel very weak... and often have trouble breathing.
They are different medications, David, but when someone is allergic to one medication, there is always a risk of discovering more that that cause allergic reactions.
What types of symptoms did you experience?
The FDA lists the typical allergic reactions as possibly including nausea, headache, itchy hives, swelling, and trouble breathing.
Betty, how are you doing? Has there been any change? What are the markings on the pills you are taking? That would enable me to research more details for you. Can you both please post back and clarify? Thank you!
Re: Verwon (# 2)
Yes,
I had success with Cleomycin that resulted in an elimination of my tooth infection with no observed side effects. I am experiencing dry mouth in the mornings. Gives me bad breath. It worked however.
BTW: Ciprofloxacin almost killed me too. 6 days in the hospital and all I was trying to fix was pink eye. It was prescribed by a walk in Walgreens. I was in nearly complete renal failure. I recovered on day 5, and I am only 37. Thank you for all of your comments.

Re: Betty (# 1)
Yes Cleocin did work for me with minimal side effects. Dry mouth and bad breath upon waking.
I also found that it randomly made me feel like my breathing was a bit weaker during the night. Better described, It made me feel like I was missing a breath. Best analogy for me is like sporadic arythmia except in the lungs instead of the heart. A little scary but few and far between.

My sister took Cleocin decades ago and it was thought at that time to have affected her hearing ability. She thinks that it was permanent to some degree. Don't get me wrong -- she is 77 years old now, and does not have perfect hearing, but she is nowhere near deaf.
I took Cleocin decades ago, and it did not affect my hearing. I started with age-related hearing loss about 20 years ago. I am now 64, and my hearing is a little worse than my sister's. Still resisting hearing aids to the chagrin of my close associates...
