Chronic Pain Patients Must Get Organized To Lobby For Their Rights. (Page 26)
(Newest replies first)

Updated

People with chronic, intractable pain are being discriminated against and it is imperative that we join forces to fight for our civil rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Please send information on existing associations and organizations that can help or how to establish one that can help pain patients fight for their rights with petitions, letters; emails to send to these state and federal politicians that are determined use prescription drugs, doctors and pharmacies to further their political careers. Drug abuse is not the same as opiate dependent because of chronic pain management and there are over 100 million people living with pain and many of us are unable to live without medication. If the deaths from abuse seems high, the suicides from pain patients that are unable to get relief will be significantly higher. If we do not fight these governors (Colorado's Hickenlooper is a perfect example) and federal agencies that are discriminating pain patients we will be even more victimized. Obviously these politicians no little about pain and they are not aware that chronic pain patients are voters. The statistics used to support their claims regarding deaths from prescription medications are seriously skewed and lacking in additional factors that contributed to the deaths. Compromising the doctor/pharmacy and patient relations is not the government's job; as John Boehner stated government needs to stay out of healthcare and let the trained healthcare professionals make decisions regarding their patients not some politician looking for recognition.

I totally agree with you. We are being treated like a drug addict. I hate to say it but I can’t wait for someone in the government get denied when they are in pain.

I had to change doctors, due to insurance, but when I did go to him, I could live a fairly good life! there is NOTHING going to stop the people that abuse med's!!! ALL IT IS DOING IS PREVENTING THE ONES THAT REALLY DO NEED THE PAIN FOR THE PAIN RELIEF CAN NOT GET ANYTHING!!! THIS IS NOTHING BUT BULL!!! WE, THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE REAL PAIN CAN BE CONTROLLED, IF IT WAS ALLOWED, BUT IT IS NOT ALLOWED ANY LONGER!!! I HAVE 'NEVER' ABUSED ANY OF MY MEDICATION, EVER, BUT THANKS TO THE GOVERNMENT STICKING THEIR NOSE WHERE IT DOES NOT BELONG, IN OUR MEDICAL CONDITIONS, IS NOT RIGHT! IT IS JUST PLAIN WRONG, NOW WE HAVE MILLIONS OF PEOPLE THAT DO NOTHING BUT SUFFER AND THE GOVERNMENT JUST DOES NOT GIVE A DAMN ABOUT US AT ALL! THIS HAS COME TO A POINT WHERE I WAS OUT OF MY WHEEL CHAIR AND WALKING, NOW I'M BACK IN IT, CAN NOT SLEEP AND STAY IN PAIN 24/7 WHAT RIGHT DO ANY OF YOU HAVE TO TELL A DOCTOR WHAT HE CAN MAY OR MAY NOT GIVE TO SOME ONE IN DESPERATE PAIN? NONE!!! ONE DAY YOU MAY ALL GET SICK BUT I GUARANTEE YOU THAT YOU WILL GET WHAT YOU NEED!!! HOW UNFAIR IS THAT!!! IT IS NOT RIGHT OR FAIR TO US THAT HAVE PAIN NOW!!!

I agree with you whole-heartedly. We have to get into action, immediately. We need to relentlessly contact our legislators, the news media, and form committees which include lawyers, doctors and other health care professionals to fight fire with fire. But we have to stop complaining and actually do something. Everyone of us has a horror story. Let's put them to use by getting them to the correct people.

Re: Hop63 (# 50) Expand Referenced Message

I understand. I hurt 24/7 and even with my pain Meds it can over ride and hurt so bad. Take my Meds away and I have nothing to live for other than more pain. I have tried coming off of them but the pain kills me and I go back on. I take 10/325 hydro and 30 Hysingla. The Hysingla was to take the place of OxyContin which was not working for me. Now the Hysingla isn’t working that well. Now i don’t know but will discuss it with my pain specilist next week. I’ll let the group know the outcome.

Where in the West Hartford, CT area are there doctors who are willing to take on new patients for pain management? Hartford Hospital and their satellite office at Blue Back Square are not taking new patients.

The citizens that get heard at their State Capitol and beyond begin by finding an existing group or start their own. Starting with family and friends a letter and telephone campaign is productive as you decide on a strategy. Recruiting in places where you would likely meet chronic pain affected people can lead you to group visits at your State Capitol and appointments with your Representatives with media invited. Creating social media groups and pages gives more voice to our situation. Some of us are limited in our activity level, however we can all contribute in some way to control motivated war on chronic pain patients.

I believe also that we need a stronger voice at the Nations Capital for lobbying. Please keep me posted as to what needs to be done.

I agree 100%!!! I know there is a problem with people abusing pain medicine, but the government is not going to stop it, no matter what they try to do!!! An abuser is an abuser!!! They are going to abuse it no matter what the government does, or try's to do, they will just go to the street's and get it! In the meantime, the people that really need their pain medicine cannot get what they "Really" need just to live a 1/2 way normal life, even then most still can't, but it does help "a lot" but the ones that really need it cannot get what they need! That is not fair to have to live this way every single day!!! If someone in government would need it, I guarantee they would get what they need while the rest of us have to "suffer" day in and day out and that is not only not fair, it is about as low as someone can get!!! I do not and never have abused any of my pain meds, but they took me from 80 mg down to 20, and from 30 mg of another down to 7.25 mg. Now all I can do is sit and sleep in a recliner!!! This is as low as low can get! When I had what I "needed" I could at least have somewhat of a normal life, now I am totally housebound!!! Do you call that "fair"? Well, it's not!!! Why cant the government stay out of what doctors "can" prescribe?!!! It is really none of your business!!! Medical situations should stay between a patient and their doctor and the doctors should be able to prescribe what their patients "really need"!!! Take care of all the school shootings and government business and stay the ____ out of a doctor and patient relationship, as it should be!

I couldn't have said it any better. It's people like that, that are hurting people like me. Getting and abusing drugs has been around for so so many years. They have to want to stop getting them and abusing them.
Until they do this will continue for a long long time.
Best wishes.

NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO YOU ARE NOT GOING TO STOP PEOPLE FROM GETTING OR ABUSING DRUGS!!! THE ONLY THING YOU ARE DOING IS HURTING PEOPLE THAT DO NEED THE MEDICINE!!!! NOW THOSE PEOPLE CAN NOT GET ANYTHING THAT THEY TRULY NEED!!! THIS IS JUST UNREAL, I WENT FROM WALKING BACK INTO A WHEEL CHAIR, SLEEPING IN A RECLINER, AND ALSO SITTING THERE ALL DAY! I CAN NOT EVEN CLEAN MY HOUSE NOW AND CAN NOT AFFORD ANY HELP WITH ANYTHING!!! AS I SAID YOU ARE "NOT" GOING TO "MAKE" PEOPLE GET CLEAN!!! I HAVE NEVER ABUSED ANY THING IN MY LIFE, NOW I CAN NOT GET THAT ANY LONGER, SO THANK'S A LOT TO OUR GOVERMENT AND TO TRUMP!!! HE NEED'S TO BE IMPEACHED!!! TRULY PAIN PAITENTS NEED THEIR MEDICINE AND CAN NOT GET IT!!!

There is nothing wrong with fighting. But, this fight is not new. It has been going on for many years. And look where it is now.

The only ones that could make a difference have been and continue to be silent.

Re: BL (# 7) Expand Referenced Message

This is not a message meant to insult. The problem I find with your comment is that it's defeatist. You could be correct, but you may be wrong. George Washington and his troops were underdogs yet they won the battle. The point is we must all give what we have to give to fight the war on necessary pain medication. Never say never.

You can find organizations to fight for our Rights all around the internet. Google, take a little time and join causes so that you can help in whatever way your condition allows.

Re: Barbara (# 31) Expand Referenced Message

These petitions do not do anything. They never get the needed signatures. People complaining because they can't get opiates tell the powers that be they are accomplishing what they set out to . Less people being prescribed opiates. Of course the ones that makes the Laws and Guidelines do not read these petitions.

If the majority of doctors were to speak out. It would be different. But, in reality the majority of doctors agree with the new Laws and Guidelines. If they did not. They or their professional associations would be speaking out. What most doctors tell patients about not agreeing with the Laws and Guidelines is not the way they feel. They tell patients that so patients won't take it out on them.

Re: Shebiesgirl (# 37) Expand Referenced Message

There is nothing to sue over. It is up to each doctor what they prescribe for individual patients. Many doctors tell patients they can't prescribe certain medications and/or dosages due to new laws. But, this is not true.

The government is not going to listen to patients. They will listen to doctors. But, doctors are not suing or doing other things that would lead to changes for two reasons. One, as I states earlier it is still up to each doctor to prescribe what they think individual patients need. The government is not forcing doctors to do anything they do not want to do. . Second, all but a very few doctors agree with the recommended reduction in opiate prescribing.

If a pain patient is seeing a doctor that will not prescribe a certain medication or dosage. They need to change doctors. If they can't find a doctor that will prescribe what they want after they have seen the ones in their area. The patient needs to accept what they have been prescribe in the past is more than they need.

When a patient truly needs pain medications to function. They are willing to take lowers doses. It takes a while for the body to adjust. But, lower doses are more effective than higher doses without the dangerous side effects.
