Chronic Pain Patients Must Get Organized To Lobby For Their Rights. (Page 2)

People with chronic, intractable pain are being discriminated against and it is imperative that we join forces to fight for our civil rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Please send information on existing associations and organizations that can help or how to establish one that can help pain patients fight for their rights with petitions, letters; emails to send to these state and federal politicians that are determined use prescription drugs, doctors and pharmacies to further their political careers. Drug abuse is not the same as opiate dependent because of chronic pain management and there are over 100 million people living with pain and many of us are unable to live without medication. If the deaths from abuse seems high, the suicides from pain patients that are unable to get relief will be significantly higher. If we do not fight these governors (Colorado's Hickenlooper is a perfect example) and federal agencies that are discriminating pain patients we will be even more victimized. Obviously these politicians no little about pain and they are not aware that chronic pain patients are voters. The statistics used to support their claims regarding deaths from prescription medications are seriously skewed and lacking in additional factors that contributed to the deaths. Compromising the doctor/pharmacy and patient relations is not the government's job; as John Boehner stated government needs to stay out of healthcare and let the trained healthcare professionals make decisions regarding their patients not some politician looking for recognition.

this looks to be an older post judging by the date but I figured I'd post a reply anyway. I've been in pain management for 20 years due to an operable damage to my back and severe neuropathy into my leg which causes unbearable leg cramps. Because of the new quantity limit regulations on pain management, I had no choice but to cancel my state health insurance so I could get my medication filled. The discount card help but if I didn't need State assistance 4 medical insurance I wouldn't have it. all this has done is made it even harder for me and my family to survive because without my pain medication I am bed ridden and would rather die than live that way

I am a Chronic Pain Patient. The doctor that I had for more than 10 years retired and I was left with a doctor that had "no use or empathy" for me (or others that I don't know of). He lowered my scripts down to the point where I indeed thought of suicide. I WANT to live, not just EXIST. Finally, I broke and called his office and I was hysterical, told the nurse (of course, the doctor was busy) she calmed me down and told me something would be done. As I was getting off the phone with her, I have two little "yappy LOL" dogs. I went to the door and standing there were TWO state police officers, one male and one female. The nurse had gotten on another line and called them, telling them I was going to commit suicide. I told them that, that wasn't the case but they refused to leave. I drove myself, with them following me, to the hospital. The doctors there of course, asked if I was seeing a psychiatrist! And that was that. No help with the pain just some useless advice. My pain is now being addressed but if you know of ANY plans of writing to "who ever or what ever" to address this situation, PLEASE let me know so that I may have MY voice heard. I couldn't go to Washington but I CAN write or call. So PLEASE let me know of anything that I CAN do. I don't know how long this doctor will continue with me and there are NO doctors that will help you now. They made the mistake of clumping all us CPP together with the real junkies out there that wouldn't think twice about putting a needle to their arms! I know because I have a daughter that will even administer hot water intravenously just to feel the needle going into her vein! Re-Hab will not work for her, I have taken her myself and she didn't last 24 hours! So I know both sides to this.

Well said. As of this month my Dr. will no longer prescribe pain medication that helps me live a somewhat limited life. Now I have to go back to square one, to a pain management Dr like I did years ago that did nothing to ease the pain. I had blocks..injections..physical therapy, chiropractors and even neck surgery. Let them live through half the pain that a lot of us endured and I bet they would change their mind. This truly sucks!

I truly hate to hear all the pain and suffering so many of us have to go through. I am one it seems of the few that has a very good Pain Management Specialist. He does seem to understand chronic pain and what it does to our lives. He also knows his limits placed on him by the state and Feds. It is a fine line to walk but he chooses to do so to help us. I am not pain free but live within a tolerable level. I only wish there were more like him out there to help all of us. My prayers and best wishes go out to all of you seeking help. If there is anything I can do to help please let me know.

People with legitimate pain suffer because people who don't have pain take meds to get stoned! Then peeps with pain have a difficult time getting their meds because of abuse. It sucks and people have to jump through hoops to get their meds.

I agree Franki!!!,the way it is now you don't know from one Dr Visit too the next if you are going too be cut off of your meds,adding too the stress we already deal with on a daily bases. I don't get the high part as I don'ever remember getting high off my meds. I would talk them lay down for 15-20 minutes & my pain would be gone. Simple as that!!!!

I am being sent to PAIN MGMT too. My neurosurgeon is banned from CVS, so he is kicking us all to the curb.
The good thing is, this specific doctor, sits on the CT. DCP Medical marijuana board. I have a legal card and I have a copy of his "board meeting notes" saying combining opiates and cannabis is a good thing, because the person requires less opiates. I agree as my CBD 1:1 vape pen has allowed me to wean 100MGS a day of narcotics. I am now down to 30MGS total per day. CT. is making people only get 1 week of opiates, and NOBODY can have "extended relief" without extra documentation from the doctor.

I see this post is from 2 months ago. Fed up. I'm 10 minutes away from both my p c and "pain management" "specialist". I've lived, worked, even served our country all over these United states. Oh, who's the happy looking lady on the header above this link? She's either well medicated for her pain or just happy to listen to our shared misery.

I am in Texas where we will be one of the last to have cannibus (sp) medically approved. If it could allow me to be less dependent on opiates I would welcome the help. I do not like opiates but I have no choice. My pain level would spike over 10 if I did not have them. I with my current medications maintain a level around 7 which is tolerable for me. I just hope everyone with chronic pain can find a Doctor that understands our plight and is willing to help.

There are many current petitions and you can start your own. Google petitions for chronic pain patients or other similar titles. When you start your own be sure it's addressed to people who can make a difference. That's people who want our votes State and Federal and people who want our funds. DEA, FDA, Congress, the President, State Legislators and the Governor's.
We must join forces and let these people know that rather than abuse we just want to get enough pain medication to live and hopefully work.

The government should stay out of people's medical conditions and stop putting limits on doctors!!! I did have a great doctor in hamilton, ohio, now I don't all to the government!!! They took his licence away and people in hamilton can not find a pain management doctor that will prescribe the same medicine that I had been on for year's which at least made my life tolerable!!! Now all I can do is sit in my wheelchair, which when I was seeing this doctor I was at least able to walk around my house!!! This is just not right! And even if you consume medical mmj, it's illegal in the state of ohio, or your doctor dismisses you!!! This is all a crock of ____! I 100% know if anyone in the white house had to deal with the pain that we deal with on an everyday basis, they would get exactly what they need!!! If the government even thinks for one minute they are going to stop the abusers from abusing drugs, they are wrong!!! They are going to get what they want or make it their selves!!! I have never abused anything in my life, now I can not even get what I "Need", not want, but "Need" and can't!!!

This is totally nut's!!! I wish every one that is doing this in the government get's what I have, then they would change their mind!!! So thank you government for making our lives pure hell, when there is medicine that is made to help, but we can not get it!!! Why even make these medicines if the people that really need them are not allowed to have them? This makes no sense at all!!! As I said I only wish some of the government employees would get some of what we have to live with every day, they would change their mind's "Fast" to get what they really "Need"!!! Why cant you go after the people that are making illegal drugs, instead of taking away the medicine that is made here and prescribed to us? We do not understand this at all!!! The only thing the government has done is make the people that "Suffer" on an every day basis make all of us suffer and that's all you have done!!! But no one will listen!!!

I AGREE 100% THEY NEED TO STOP!!! AND LET THE DOCTOR'S DO THEIR JOB WITH OUT LOOSING IT DUE TO THE GOVERNMENT!!! IT IS NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS WHAT MEDICAL PATIENTS "NEED" THEY ARE NOT DOCTORS, SO WHY SHOULD THEY CONTROL WHAT WE TAKE! File a suit. They can not leave you to withdrawal. It could kill you. Start making calls. Doctors are writing more scripts because they have taken on refugee patients. Call your reps, human services, esp if you have legit medically necessary opioid med for treatment. The gov is breaking the law interfering in your treatment. Contact dea and tell them your family is aware and will sue them. If you do not get your meds if you die from withdrawal. The laws are not made to deny you treatment but to stop addicts and now there are many docs taking cdc guidelines as law and dumping patients. Contact the national pain report. There is another doc they shut down too in cali for taking on refugee patients.

THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD STAY OUT OF OUR MEDICAL LIVE'S!!! PEOPLE THAT WANT TO ABUSE THING'S ARE STILL GOING TO ABUSE ANYTHING THEY WANT AND THAT CAN NOT BE STOPPED, WHILE PEOPLE THAT DO NOT ABUSE ANYTHING "NEED" THEIR MEDICINE, JUST TO LIVE WITH A LITTLE BIT OF RELIEF FROM THE PAIN THEY SUFFER WITH EVERY DAY" I AM ONE OF THEM, THEY TOOK MY DR. LICENSE AWAY AND NOW I AM BACK IN A WHEELCHAIR AND CAN NO LONGER WALK WHILE WHEN I WAS TAKING MY PAIN MEDICINE, I WAS OUT OF THE WHEELCHAIR AND WAS ABLE TO LIVE SOME WHAT OF A NORMAL LIFE. THANK'S D.N.A. FOR "NOTHING" BUT MAKING ME SUFFER AGAIN TO THE POINT I CAN NO LONGER WALK AND SIT IN A CHAIR ALL DAY LONG!!!

I have been on oxycodone 30mg and oxycontin 80mg for a couple years now. I have had spinal stenosis along with osteopenia. Have trachea stenosis and cancer. My doctor told me that's nothing. I provided all my reports to support my physical problems. I need to get or find a doctor and to start litigation against our government to let chronic pain patients get medication and not be shunned by it. Also, stop threatening doctors who should be able to take care of us properly and without fear.

There is nothing to sue over. It is up to each doctor what they prescribe for individual patients. Many doctors tell patients they can't prescribe certain medications and/or dosages due to new laws. But, this is not true.

The government is not going to listen to patients. They will listen to doctors. But, doctors are not suing or doing other things that would lead to changes for two reasons. One, as I states earlier it is still up to each doctor to prescribe what they think individual patients need. The government is not forcing doctors to do anything they do not want to do. . Second, all but a very few doctors agree with the recommended reduction in opiate prescribing.

If a pain patient is seeing a doctor that will not prescribe a certain medication or dosage. They need to change doctors. If they can't find a doctor that will prescribe what they want after they have seen the ones in their area. The patient needs to accept what they have been prescribe in the past is more than they need.

When a patient truly needs pain medications to function. They are willing to take lowers doses. It takes a while for the body to adjust. But, lower doses are more effective than higher doses without the dangerous side effects.

These petitions do not do anything. They never get the needed signatures. People complaining because they can't get opiates tell the powers that be they are accomplishing what they set out to . Less people being prescribed opiates. Of course the ones that makes the Laws and Guidelines do not read these petitions.

If the majority of doctors were to speak out. It would be different. But, in reality the majority of doctors agree with the new Laws and Guidelines. If they did not. They or their professional associations would be speaking out. What most doctors tell patients about not agreeing with the Laws and Guidelines is not the way they feel. They tell patients that so patients won't take it out on them.

This is not a message meant to insult. The problem I find with your comment is that it's defeatist. You could be correct, but you may be wrong. George Washington and his troops were underdogs yet they won the battle. The point is we must all give what we have to give to fight the war on necessary pain medication. Never say never.

You can find organizations to fight for our Rights all around the internet. Google, take a little time and join causes so that you can help in whatever way your condition allows.
