Did you mean Chloral Hydrate? It had limited use as a sedative and hypnotic. It is not commonly used, anymore, but it once was a popular medication to use.

The FDA warns that it did carry the risk of being habit forming, and may cause nausea, dizziness, headache, and drowsiness, as side effects.
