Chantix Can Cause Extremely Bad Side Effects

I started taking Chantix when my employer had a promotion to help its employees to quit smoking. I was a long time smoker and had tried to quit smoking several times. I tried everything from Tooth picks to Nicotine gum, to no avail. So I participated, and was prescribed Chantix to quit smoking. When I stopped it got worse, the nightmares haunted me. I was having issues with blurry vision, making it hard to drive to work every day, I had anger issues, severe depression, and became a different person. Taking Chantix started me down a long path of Severe Depression, which I am still battling today. Some of the other side effects I experience are, anger, nightmares, blurring vision, suicidal thoughts, that led to one attempt. I was almost hospitalized for severe depression, because my parents were extremely worried about my safety. We got all the way to the point where I had to sign the release form at the mental inpatient hospital, and I got scared, said no, we left. From there I was involved in a head-on collision, which tore my right shoulders labrum 360 degrees. I then had surgery to fix the problem. They inserted 7 anchors in my right shoulder and as immobile for 3 + months, while my shoulder healed. I suffered through 7 months of physical therapy. Then the Severe part of the depression sank in. I became a hermit, stopped sleeping in the same bed with my wife and basically lived in the basement for 4 years, due to the severe depression. In 2013, my wife asked me to move out. The hardest thing for me is that I lost the love of my life. And caused her so much pain do to my behavior after/during I was prescribed Chantix, that she is scared of me, and for me. So much so, she asked me to move out then changed the locks on our house. This is the woman I spent 28 of my 46 years with and raised a son with. How has this affected my life? I don’t have a life now, just waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Ever since then I have been unemployable, I lost my wife, I lost my relationship with my 25 year old son, I am losing my house, I'm 46 and living in parents basement, while I work with physiatrists to stabilize my severe depression. I'm on state DSHS health care.
Chantix is one of the most dangerous drugs that can be legally obtainable. It ruins lives! If you read this and are thinking about trying Chantix, I would caution you. If there is even a 1% chance of experiencing what I did, you don’t want to take it. Quitting smoking is a state of mind, it doesn’t matter what drug/drugs you take. You have to want it bad enough to quit. If you don’t want to quit smoking for yourself, then think of the people that love you and do it for them. That should be enough motivation to want to quit, unless you want emphysema of course. If you want to know what that is like, next time you’re at a dinner, grab a straw and try to breathe through it. That is what it’s going to be like, that is if you don’t get lung cancer first.

Hello, Brenn! How are you? I'm very sorry about the experience you had.

However, there are serious possible risks associated with any medication, even over the counter products.

There are others that have had problems with Chantix, but there are also many that have a great experience with it.

Does anyone else have experience with this medication?
