Carbamazepine Zen Retard
UpdatedMy wife's been taking Zen Retard for approximately 5 to 7 years. She did not have any fits the last 2 to 3 years so she stopped taking pills. Now since she is going through lots of physical and mental stress she had a few fits. We consulted our Doctor and she is now ok since the last 6 months. But since the last approx 1 month she is going through various side effects as described above. Also we are now thinking about changing our Doctor. Pls comment.

How is your wife doing?
If she has some seizure disorder, she should remain on an appropriate medication, even if she goes a long period of time without experiencing a seizure, unless her doctor directs otherwise. Some of these disorders are not curable, they can only be controlled via medications and lifestyle changes, according to the NIH.
Whether or not you change your doctor is entirely up to you. If you aren't happy with the current one, then yes, you should definitely do so.
Is she back on the medication, now?
The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, mood swings, and weight gain.
