Carbamazepine 200 Mg Er Capsules

my pharmacy changed medicine on me... again...on my 'generic' carbamazepine . called them up and i mentioned to the girl that i have been prescribed the yellow 'carbs' with NC*200 on it for 2-3 years...now i am getting a capsule i took when i was younger and it was called 'tegretol'...it is half teal and gray capsule with what i can make out S433 .she said it is a 200 mg ER capsule carbamazepine . AND what i take are not tegretol at all...i am so confused...this is a nation-wide pharmacy...

That is correct, Tegretol is the name brand and the time released ones are actually tablets with a circle and T logo on them. For instance, the 200mg XR one is whilte with a pink circle on it and the T in the middle of the circle is also left white.

The yellow capsule with the NC 200 on it is a 200mg capsule of Carbamazepine XR, which is the generic for Tegretol.

And the one with the S433 marking on it is only a 100mg XR Carbamazepine.

Once a medication is available as a generic, it will usually be manufactured by several different companies and they all have to have different markings on them, to enable them to be identified in case of an emergency.

Your pharmacy doesn't have to carry any particular one of them and will usually just have whichever one was cheapest in stock. That's how they keep the prices down for their customers that don't have insurance.
