Cannabis For Weight Loss?

Updated

Has anyone had a person experience using cannabis for weight loss? If so, what strain did you use? How did you use it (smoke, vape, food, oil, tincture). I live in a state where medical and recreational cannabis is legal. I tried 8 different strains for chronic pain without much relief. While I was trying to figure out different strains to try, I would occasionally come across someone that said that cannabis helped them lose weight. I do not smoke so I tried a tincture under my tongue, cannabis infused in honey and I processed 6 strains in coconut oil and put them in capsules to swallow. Even though it didn’t help a lot with the pain, I’m interested in trying to figure out if there are some strains that may help me lose weight.

I have found that the Sativa strain has helped me with weight loss, it is a mental stimulant for me, no cravings for sweet salty junk food. It motivates me to move around more because of its' anti-depressant and pain killing properties.

Yes when I lived in Oregon I had a license to obtain medical MJ. I had mostly sativa strains and I stayed slim. Butt I've been living in non-friendly MJ states since 2015 and I've gained a lot of weight. Sure wish it was legal here!

I am sorry if I don't understand. The substance that you are inquiring about, by it's very nature, gives MOST people "the munchies". Something I do not want if I am trying to lose weight. I have found out that if I am serious about losing weight that diet and exercise works. My father was in his 90's and he was not very mobile but he had a physical therapist come to the house and show him some exercises that he could do at his age and physical condition.

Part of it depends on how cannabis works for you. If you're one of the people who doesn't get the munchies, or gets the healthy munchie cravings, then yeah, that coupled with pain relief, if it works for you, can increase the ability to move about and thus help someone lose weight. It is also showing some promise in supporting the body's metabolic process so for those who can avoid unhealthy munchie cravings that could also be a factor.

While I'm still fighting to get the medical card, I have a friend who's had it for a while and she's like me, would rather chow down on a crisp cucumber or some pickled okra when she wants to snack and her snack preference remains the same when she's got the cannabis munchies. There's been some improvement for her weight wise and she struggled with her weight a lot beforehand. I know it's only one first hand account but I have heard of it happening with others too, I just typically only use what I've actually seen for myself as examples.

But yeah the potential is there.

I can tell you from personal experience, it helped me lose a ton of weight. It made me want to move around a lot and gave me energy. I'm not sure about the strain or anything but I always smoked it, never ingested it. It did give me the "munchies" but that didnt affect the weight loss properties at all. After awhile that whole munchies thing goes away anyway. Hope this helps.

Re: Cathy (# 2) Expand Referenced Message

Just a suggestion but most States do not allow the legal consumption of social marijuana. You might try this if you are serious about losing weight. Put less food in that round hole on your face and exercise some. I lost 85 pounds that way. Never once did I feel the need to smoke cannabis. Plus my job forbid it. When random drug tests were given any positive results resulted in immediate termination. There was a way to avoid termination IF you self-reported and entered a drug treatment program. If your job requires a clean driver's license then smoking cannabis is out of the question. My company made this very clear in the application process and entry drug test. They also required random drug tests from time to time. For most EMPLOYED people smoking cannabis is NOT an option. After cannabis sales were legalized many thought that that gave them carte blanche to smoke anytime because it was "legal" in the State. The company told them that the drug policy had not changed and any dirty urines would still result in immediate termination. In fact, there is one city that has completely made smoking cigarettes at ANY time off limits (even on your own off time). Don't post back that it is not legal because it has been taken to Court and the city won the case.

Maybe the 9nj is not the reason for weight loss maybe it is substituting addictions

Substituting addictions? Firstly, you can't become "addicted" to MJ, except perhaps psychologically. Second, I did not replace it with anything else. I don't do drugs and I don't drink.

I have not had experienced any weight loss with cannabis and don't know anyone who has.

I have not had my pain alleviated using cannabis, and sometimes it enhanced my pain. I don't use pot anymore for that reason.
Just my two cents.

"Green Crack Cannibals" gives a person a lot of energy. The euphoria/strain would keep you moving, which is why some people claim weight loss, but this strain will give you a major head high. If you can't smoke it, then try edibles, and or Vape it. The best for pain is Gorilla Glue #4. I hope this information helps!

Try looking at a website called Leafly. You can input what you’re looking for and it will tell you what strains to try. The Albert Walker works GREAT on my pain. I can do yard work when I use it, but it makes me want to eat EVERYTHING. I agree with whoever told you to use a sativa. That’s a good start if Leafly doesn’t have any suggestions.

Also, if you’re taking oil capsules it helps to freeze them so when you take them they make it to your intestines.
