Can Not Fill Hydromorphone Rx In Pt Charlotte
UpdatedHello. I just moved here from NYC and I have serious lower back issues. I was in a car accident in 2000 and have 2 herniated disks in my back and have been on hydromorphone for years. I saw a Doctor here in my new town and he gave me the rx, then came the nightmare. I drove to over 50 pharmacies to only be told "we're out of that rx and even had someone from walgreens pick up a piece of paper and start reading me a script as to why he cant fill it. I have aetna insurance and sent the rx in for home delivery and they said they would have no problem filling the script, I sent it in and again was told they wouldn't fill it. I have been on this medication for years and I desperately need help. I see on these forums that other people are having the same problem. I don't want to share war stories, I only want a solution please help

Hi, Joe! I'm sorry about the problem that you're having.
And I wish I had a solution for you, but I don't. The problem on the east coast right now is that a very large distributor was shut down by the government due to their moving far more controlled substances than any others in the area. They have stated that they specialized in pain management medications, but it hasn't helped their case at the moment.
With them shut down, most pharmacies are running out of their stock of controlled substances and are having problems ordering more in, until a new distributor takes over, or that one is allowed to start operating again.
The only suggestion I can really make is that you talk to your doctor and see if there's an alternative medication you can use in the meantime that might not be so hard to find.
Does anyone else have any ideas?
There is a mom and pop pharmacy,in pt.charloette fl. You do mean Florida correct??
Each pharmacy is allowed only so many bottles of Dilaudid a month and they usually fill for regular customers and no one else for safety and control reasons.Keep looking or go to pharmacies and just ask as the are only allowed to fll for certain regular customers. Mail orders may help as well. Good Luck.
from NYC now in pt charolotte, fl hydro-morphone issues; did you try publix?? i also live in your area and that is the only place; you might even have to cry to one of the pharmacists; it is awful as i moved from dallas and cannot believe what horrible situation we have here!!
About 13 years ago I had to use Medco (now Express Scripts). For whatever reason they didn't carry the 8mg tabs-just 2's & 4's. On top of that, their policy on C2 drugs limited the monthly quantity to 120 tabs (i was taking 600 8mg or 1200 4mg tabs/month). While they wouldn't stock the 8mg strength, a letter from my pain specialist to their Medical Director was accepted & a waiver of their arbitrary policy limits was granted (oh, this had NOTHING to do w/insurance restrictions as I was cash pay @ the time). If Aetna's PBM wont dispense via the mail svc program I'd call ur insurer to see if another mail service pharmacy is "in network". Alternatively, if ur dose is high like mine I'd check into compounding pharmacies (make sure insurance will cover it). Lastly, when I had the issue w/Medco I just moved back to MI from D.C., where my specialist was located @. As many of his patients were from out of state (@ that time regs reqd patients only be seen in person every 3 months & monthly via telephone/email progress report submission) the Dr. had arrangements w/several local pharmacies that would ship via FedEx during the intervening months. Do you know if NY law permits dispensing controlled substances prescribed by a physician not licensed in NY (are they, like FL, reciprocal?). If yes, since you have a well established relationship w/a pharmacy in ur former neighborhood I'd inquire whether they can continue dispensing (& shipping) the meds to u but w/ur new Dr. as the prescribing physician. Good luck!
Where is the Mom and pop location
