Can Doctors Punish You By Not Prescribing Meds For A Week?

I was 25 minutes late to my appointment and the Dr's office told us as a punishment to go a week without meds. There were still 2 other patients there to be seen. Is this legal and is there anything I can do about getting my meds? I've been doing good on it and don't want to fall back into old ways.

In reality, as long as you are stable, and not in any life-threatening danger at that time, they do not have to treat you, or prescribe anything for you.

So yes, they can really make their own rules, and they can also drop you as a patient at any time, without warning, and without needing to give a reason.

Did they specifically say it was because you were late, or did they say you couldn't see the doctor, since you were late, and would have to reschedule your appointment? I'm asking, because these are two different scenarios.

Many doctors have appointment policies stating that you must reschedule if you are a certain amount of time, or longer, late for an appointment, and that no prescriptions will be given, until you see the doctor.

What resulted in your being late?
