Can bactrim ds 800 160 tab elevate blood pressure for someone who has hypertension but taking meds for that.

Hi Paula,

Based on my research, there have actually been several reports from other patients stating that Sulfamethoxazole/Trimethoprim was the alleged cause of their hypertension. However it appears the manufacturer has failed to list hypertension in their drug monograph as a potential side effect.

If you are experiencing such symptoms, my suggestion would be to keep track of and monitor your blood pressure before and after each dose. This way you can show your doctor the effect it's been having with proof over an extended or short period of time.
